About Stella Andrews

I love to write stories where the men are hot and sexy and the women strong and beautiful. I take way too much pleasure in looking at pictures of Hot guys for my covers and looking for hot men in the supermarket aisles. I enjoy the freedom of a filthy mouth in fiction where I am prim and proper with my family. This is my guilty secret. Let’s just keep it between ourselves.

HARBOR front and back cover

SYNOPSIS

Lucia Marcello is the good girl—or she used to be. The youngest mafia principessa of her family, she’s not the one who falls for the man from the wrong side of the tracks, and she certainly shouldn’t have run across the country with him.

She’ll leave everything behind for him …

Renzo Zulla is the bad guy—society and life labeled him that way. The only person left to take care of his siblings, he couldn’t afford the distraction of falling in love with a rich girl far beyond his league, and he definitely shouldn’t have her riding shotgun as he runs for his life.

He doesn’t want her anywhere else …

Love keeps them together.
Fear keeps them running.
Chaos follows them everywhere they go.

How long can they keep moving before someone finally catches up?

The cost of love is always high.
Never harbor it blindly.

Note: Harbor is book two in a three-book trilogy following the same couple.

EXCLUSIVE REVEAL EXCERPT

The world was prettiest when it was dark. Shrouded in silence, all distractions sleeping for the moment, a person could finally reflect on everything. Their life, and what had become of it. Their choices, and why they made them.

Anything.

A person could think about anything when it was dark.

Yet, the only thing Lucia Marcello could think about as she watched the dark highway climb ahead of their vehicle was how long they had been driving. She blinked one too many times, pretty sure that the last time she had stared at the highway, there had been a lot fewer trees and more sunlight. The highway had been far more congested, too.

She peered at the clock on the dash, taking in the time before counting back the hours.

“Twenty,” she murmured.

In the driver’s seat, Renzo passed her a look. Despite her confusion, she hadn’t for one second forgot that he was next to her driving like he had been for the last several hours—almost an entire day of driving, now. It was impossible for her to just forget this man was near. Her whole body felt it, like he lit her on fire in the best way possible. All of her little hairs stood on end, and her nerves snapped. Even sitting beside her, he wasn’t nearly close enough.

Or, that’s how she felt.

Strange how that worked …

His brow quirked up, a silent question without him saying anything to her out loud. He wouldn’t want to wake his sleeping brother in the back seat, after all. He’d even turned down the music when it seemed to be making Diego toss and turn more than usual. Always his first concern, Diego took importance.

Lucia didn’t mind.

“What are you mumbling about over there?”

Had she been mumbling?

“We’ve been driving for twenty hours,” she told him quietly.

Renzo nodded, and his grip on the SUV’s steering wheel tightened. “Yeah, I know.”

If he’d been keeping track, too, he hadn’t said anything to Lucia about it. Then again, they had just taken off … they were basically on the run in a stolen vehicle after burning another stolen vehicle. She didn’t blame him for being distracted, and focusing on the things he needed his attention to be on.

How many hours they had been driving probably wasn’t even a blip on his radar. But it was on hers, now. The more she watched Renzo from the side, the easier it was for her to see what he was trying to suppress. His gaze dropped every so often, darting to the clock before going back to the road. His eyes were dimmed with tiredness even if it was hard to see in the low lighting of the vehicle. He kept that tight grip on the steering wheel no matter what, though, but Lucia was wondering how much effort that was taking him to do exactly that.

“Ren?”

“Hmm, what, baby?”

She smiled.

He’d said it so absently, like she wasn’t far from his mind now, but he was still worrying about other things. He needed to sleep. They needed to stop and rest, or she needed to drive. Either one would be fine for Lucia as long as it meant Renzo was going to relax for a couple of hours, and close his eyes.

“I can drive,” she said.

“I know you can drive.”

“So let me do that for a while. Pull over, let me drive.”

His gaze drifted to her again, and the edges of his lips quirked up in a smile. “I’m good.”

“But—”

“Lucia, I don’t even know where I’m going. How are you going to know, huh?”

He did have a good point even if she didn’t want to admit it. What good would it do them if she ended up getting lost while he was sleeping?

“Still haven’t figured that out, then?” she asked.

“Where we’re going?”

“Yeah.”

Newly widowed and on the threshold of seventy, Lizzie Warton questions the value of her remaining years. Uncharacteristically, she decides for the first time in her life to do what she wants, instead of what everyone expects.
Against the wishes of family and friends, she sets out for Africa to work at a Ugandan middle school. When she lands at night in the Entebbe airport, her hosts are not there to meet her. Near panic, she hires a local taxi. The driver drugs her, steals everything, and dumps her limp body in a slum. Waking in the dark, she feels someone tugging off her shoes.
Without money, a passport, clothes, or medications, Lizzie is forced to start over and find a way to survive.
Soon she learns that nothing in Africa is as it appears. The grind of daily life in the third-world is beyond anything Lizzie imagined. Nevertheless, encouraged by budding friendships in surprising places, and against every sensible instinct she’s ever developed, Lizzie’s own personal search for meaning becomes the grand adventure of a lifetime.
EXCERPT

Lizzie carried a towel, some rags, a folded robe, a big bar of deep blue soap, and a pair of flip-flops. Meg walked just ahead of her, lugging a large plastic bucket of warm water in one hand and tapping the ground ahead of them with a long stick.

“We rent this house,” Meg said, “and the owner keeps talking about upgrading to indoor plumbing. That’d be nice but we’re afraid if he does, we won’t be able to afford the rent. So far, it’s just talk.”

They passed long sets of clothes lines near the back perimeter wall and approached a painted enclosure with two wooden doors. Meg pulled open the left side door and stepped inside the closet-sized room, setting her bucket down on the slightly canted cement floor. “As a result, you will have the pleasure of a more traditional clean-up experience.” She grinned at Lizzie. “I know, it’s not exactly the Ritz, but bucket baths have their own rustic charms.”

She repositioned the two small benches in the room, pushing one against a wall and sliding the other into the center of the space. Turning back to Lizzie, still standing at the door, Meg set down the stick and held out her hands. “Here, gimme those, and I’ll set things up.”

Lizzie handed everything to Meg who efficiently arranged the items in a practiced order, using the outer bench and some convenient wooden pegs set into the walls.

“Okay. Let me show you the basics.” Meg crouched over the bucket and pretended to cup handfuls of water and toss them onto one shoulder and then onto the other. “You just kind of get the water going where you need it to go. Then you lather up. Rinse off. Repeat. It’s not complicated.”

She snickered and patted Lizzie’s shoulder as she exited. “Wait’ll you have to do it with cold water. I’ll remind Musaazi to leave another bucket outside the door for an extra rinse.” She winked. “I’m sure you’ll need it after all you’ve been through.”

Lizzie peeked inside the stark, white painted room and her eyes grew wider—there wasn’t any roof! She heard Meg outside explaining the next room in the enclosure, so she ducked back out to catch up.

“This is the bathroom side,” Meg explained. “I know it feels primitive but it’s clean. Just pretend you’re camping in the woods and you’ll be fine. Most women carry TP with them. You’ll get used to it. Here, the boys do a good job of keeping ours stocked.” She smiled as she stepped out so Lizzie could get a look. “And they no longer steal it, so that helps.”

Lizzie stepped into the bathroom, reassured to see a corrugated roof above her. There were a few pegs in the walls and a hole in the cement floor with room for feet on either side. A generous roll of toilet paper was within easy reach, and a small shelf nearby held two more rolls. She heard Meg’s voice continuing so she stepped back out.

“I know this is a lot to deal with, but you’ll be fine. Now, I’m sure you’re anxious to get started. I’m gonna go pull together some breakfast.” She stepped off toward the house, then stopped. “Oh, and just drape your dirty clothes over the bath wall. Musaazi’ll gather ‘em up, and I’ll get ‘em washed. Okay?”

Lizzie felt dazed, but not unpleasantly so. “Okay.”

Meg studied her for a moment, unsure whether to leave. “You’ll get your feet under you soon. I promise.”

Lizzie cocked her head, uncertain.

Meg grinned. “You’re made for this place, Lizzie. I can feel it.”

“Am I?”

“Yep. Despite this beginning, you’re gonna love Uganda.”

Young Adult, supernatural romantic thriller
Date Published: November 2013

Kate Archer is instantly drawn to Nick. He’s handsome, smart, and interested in her – perhaps a little too interested according to Kate’s brother. It’s a good thing Nick is interested, or Kate would have died the night of the football game. Nick may have rescued Kate, but he can’t stop the inevitable. Kate is changing; she just doesn’t know it. She can’t explain the visions and sensations affecting her body, but she can enjoy the pleasure of Nick’s kiss – that is, until she learns the real reason he is with her. Betrayed by her genetics, Kate begins a metamorphosis that forces her to confront an unseen reality and claim her true destiny.

Excerpt

Nick picked up my brown leather coat. “May I,” he said. He gently raised the coat into place, slipped his hand along the back of my neck, and lifted my hair so it hung over the coat instead of uncomfortably down inside of it. “You were fabulous tonight, and you haven’t even begun to reach your potential.”

I chuckled as his breath and lips tickled my neck. “Nick, not here. We’re in church.” I turned and promptly ended his kisses.

“I’m sorry. You’re right. You just have this aura about you that gets me going. I can’t help myself. When you smile, laugh, or get excited, you scintillate.”

“I scintillate!” I burst out laughing. “That’s ridiculous.”

“You see. You’re doing it now.” He stared at me. It felt like he was looking into me, examining my soul. “Your face is radiant. I wish you could see it.”

“We should get going before I literally grow wings and become your personal angel,” I said sarcastically. I picked up my bouquet of flowers and deeply inhaled their floral scent. “Having you for a boyfriend would either help a girl’s self-concept or make her really self-conscious.” I playfully touched the bouquet to his chest.

“Huh,” Nick looked at me incredulously. “Did you just refer to me as your ‘boyfriend’ and not as your ‘really good, special, guy friend’?” he asked as we entered the crowded hallway and headed towards the exit.

“Pfft, don’t let it go to your head.”

“Wow, I’m moving up in the world,” he said. “I guess that necklace is working its magic already.”

I slipped my hand under my leather coat to search for the ornate chain and butterfly. It was still there, resting against my sweater. “Thanks again for the necklace. It’s beautiful.” I looked at him as we stepped into the cold night. Stars twinkled, and his warm hand took mine.

“I’m honored that you’d wear it.” We stopped under the portico, oblivious to those around us.

“Please wear it at all times,” he urged. “The lady who designed and forged this necklace is very… how can I put it? Religious.”  I raised an eyebrow and gave him a crooked smile. “Bear with me,” he said as he ran his fingers through the loose ends of my hair. “She put an enchantment on it. That necklace will help protect whoever is wearing it.”

“I’m religious, not superstitious.”

“That doesn’t matter. Your beliefs are inconsequential. The miraculous in this world is not dependent on us. Humans, we, are too weak to control such power. Besides, sometimes faith gives people great comfort. In ancient Greece, they believed that butterflies were the souls of their loved ones. So you can see why the butterfly is important to Greeks.”

“Since it is from you, I will never take it off.” I rose up on my tiptoes, placed my hands on his face, and pulled his lips to mine. We kissed a simple kiss in the lights under the portico.

Rijel 12 – Blitz

Rijel 12 banner

Science Fiction
Date Published: 11/23/18
Publisher: Chandra Press
 photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png
The remote Intergalactic Penal Colony on the planet Rijel 12 is a very profitable enterprise. Its desolate surface is an uninhabitable wasteland relentlessly scorched by its sun, but inside the planet is a vast treasure trove of the most precious resources in the galaxy.
Prisoners sentenced to Rijel 12 know it’s a one-way ticket. It used to be a convict would serve their time and come home. That stopped a while ago. Inmates are forced to work the mines in wretched conditions and the death rate is staggering. Luckily for the warden, new inmates arrive monthly to replenish the labor pool. Business has never been better.
From the darkness of their miserable existence, one prisoner decides to take a stand and begins to organize a resistance. Inmates rally to the cause and prepare for rebellion. Can the rag-tag rebels of ‘New Australia’ succeed in their quest for freedom or will the warden and the overpowering might of the Interplanetary Authority extinguish their only hope?
From new author, King Everett Medlin, comes an action-packed epic of hope, rebellion, and the quest for redemption.

Excerpt

The hard life of mining killed off thousands of prisoners every year, and there was no predictable pattern to it.  Stronger prisoners died in the mines just as easily as weaker prisoners. Determination to survive, or resentment at having been sent to this subterranean hell, could certainly sustain a being for a while, but accidents were quite common.  Death could come easily, and at most any time.  Prison administrators didn’t care.  They didn’t have to.  In another few weeks, there’d be a ship arriving with more prisoners anyway.  Life deteriorated into a matter of brutal survival for the desperate beings on Rijel 12.
After half an Earth century of dumping unfortunate prisoners on the planet, the place had become a death sentence, and everyone knew it.  Inmates would tell newly arrived prisoners, and even prison officials communicated the same message.  As one infamously cruel guard used to put it to arriving convicts as they were processed in the receiving bay, “You have been sent here to die, and that is likely what you’ll do.  Accept it, and your miserable existence here may end peacefully.  Who knows?  You may die tomorrow.  We don’t know, and we don’t care.  Work and you eat.  Eat and you live.  That’s all you need to know for now.”
And yet fifty Earth years after its creation, even when faced with such an impossible existence, amazingly, some beings learned how to survive.  They adapted, and they overcame by creating a society of their own.  Leaders arose, structure developed, and the situation stabilized, partly driven by necessity and partly due to the sheer determination of intelligent creatures seeking to exist, no matter what the circumstances.  They figured out ways to live on.
