At the age of 18, Esperanza Ignacio begins her college years at an upscale Los Angeles art school, where she studies to fulfill her long-term dream in Animation. Her roommate, Anna, is what she calls a “chicana from Beverly Hills” because of the rich daddy and the new car she got for her quinceañera.
Things get a little confusing for Esperanza when an old friend comes looking for her, hoping to start a meaningful relationship. But is Carlos the right guy for her? She never even considered him to be anything more than a friend since high school. Then comes Jake, a gorgeous mechanic, who shares her passion for books and loves her for who she is. What’s a girl to do?

And, as she approaches her graduation, she is faced with a difficult decision: should she leave Los Angeles and leave behind her family, her home, and everything she’s known? Ever since she was born in the California barrio of Hawaiian Gardens, she’s always had to look over the fence, wondering what she’s been missing. Now she’s taking a flying leap over to see what’s beyond the little barrio. What’s beyond her family, her friends, and her past? What’s beyond the little nothing town, where dreams don’t exist? Can Liza find her place in a lawless world?
When Liza Trent decided to become a mail order bride out west, she never imagined her fiancé would die before she arrived. His death places her in debt, and the only way to pay off the money is by auctioning off her virginity against her will. When she’s rescued by two handsome men, she mistakenly thinks they’re assassins. Despite her reservations, she accepts their protection.
Only the two men, Apollo Beck and Blue Hawke, aren’t assassins. They’re Texas Rangers sent after a man who preys on women, and their dangerous hunt has just brought Liza into the line of fire.
Confused with the attraction she feels for two men, Liza has a difficult decision before her: commit to loving Apollo and Blue or commit to her burning desire to become a doctor…unless she’s found and taken for revenge first.

Excerpt

Apollo and Blue raced along the train tracks, pushing their mounts hard. The train had about twenty minutes on them, which meant they were about five miles out of town. The thought of Liza in the hands of Reynolds left Apollo feeling ice cold inside.

The horses ate up the ground, and soon they saw the train chugging steadily on the track. Apollo urged his mount on until they were right behind the caboose. He reached out a hand and caught hold of the frame, giving a groan as he pulled with all his strength to bring his mount up even with the train.

He kicked his left foot free of the stirrup, let loose of the reins, and grabbed with his other hand just as his horse skidded away from him, leaving him dangling for a second over the hard, unyielding ground. His muscles screaming in protest, he hauled his legs up until his toe caught on a rung. He pushed with his thighs and jumped onto the caboose platform.

Panting, his heart pounding in a mixture of excitement and fright, he turned to help Blue. His cousin mimicked him, but instead of being left to look like a flag flying in the sky, Apollo reached out and grabbed Blue’s shirt, yanking him forward. The other man landed half on him, safely onto the train.

For a moment, both men just stared in shock at each other, not quite believing that they’d just jumped onto a moving train. The after-effects of adrenaline pumping through their system left them slightly jittery, and a second later, pain lanced through Apollo’s side.

He doubled over, panting slightly, hands on his knees.

“You okay?” Blue asked.

Apollo nodded and waved, slowly standing upward as he breathed through the heat stabbing through his wound. “I can’t believe we just did that. You realize we just jumped off the horses that carried all our possessions?”

Blue tapped his right upper chest. “I have our map and our documents.”

“I’m so glad you’re smarter than I am.”

“I’ll remind you later that you said that.”

About the Author

I began reading my mom’s Harlequin Presents in the fifth grade, and from the first story I knew I wanted to write romance novels. I like writing about the very ordinary girl thrust into extraordinary circumstances, so my heroines will probably never be lawyers, doctors or corporate highrollers.  I try to write characters who aren’t cookie cutters and push myself to write complicated situations that I have no idea how to resolve, forcing me to think outside the box.  I love writing characters who are real, complex and full of flaws, heroes and heroines who find redemption through love.

Middle-Grade Fantasy
Publisher: Dragon’s Egg Books

Magic and adventure abound in this second book in the Dragon Lad trilogy.
“Tale of the Talisman” follows our young, dragon-hatched hero as he seeks his parents, his past and his destiny in Roman-ruled Britannia. A boy without a history — at least one that he can remember — Dirk turns to his shape-shifting friends for help. They launch him on a quest involving the one clue he has to his previous existence: a magic talisman.
The wizard Beldor gives Dirk a ring that allows him to re-enter the realm he thought he’d left behind. Armed with this ring and a magic map, he travels a trail leading to a raging dragon, a slippery mermaid, two grasping sorcerers and a legion of Roman soldiers. He also rediscovers a long-lost friend and powers he never imagined.
Fast-paced and funny, “Dragon Lad: Tale of the Talisman” is a modern classic that can be read alone or as a companion to the first novel in the trilogy, “Dragon Lad: The Thirteenth Egg.”
Dragon Lad: Tale of the Talisman tablet, phone, paperback
Excerpt
CHAPTER ONE
Mist-Spell
Dirk set his satchel on the seacliff, and breathed in the chill salt air.
There are times I wish I were still a dragon. Not forever, but I sure could have used a set of dragon wings for this journey. And dragon-fire to keep me warm….
For the past four days, he‘d slogged over frost, snow and ice at a pace worthy of a Roman legionary. He‘d stopped only to eat, sleep, and rub the numbness out of his frozen, blistered toes.
Determined to reach his destination, he‘d raced across the strange, ancient landscape of Britannia. He‘d wandered through eerie, fog-bound woods, farmsteads and bogs; past centuries-old tin and coppermines and even older moss-covered fingers of rock pointing to the sky. He‘d torn his clothes on bramble thorns, dirtied his shoes crossing sheep and cow tracks and come close to tumbling down the sheer, rugged slopes lining the coast. He‘d gone as far west as he could go without leaping off the bluffs.
A stranger in an unfamiliar yet bewilderingly familiar realm, he hadn‘t lingered to ask about his surroundings. The only history that interested him was his own. The mystery of his origin had compelled him to travel alone during a season better spent huddling by a fire. He hungered for action, hungered for certainty in his uncertain existence, and the journey fed the hunger.
Tall and slim, with raven hair and eyes of a gold hue rare in humans, Dirk possessed the outward appearance of a boy of twelve human years. But he could only remember the past seven months of his existence. For all he knew, his life had begun the previous spring, when he‘d hatched as a dragon.
But just as birds and reptiles molt, casting off their old feathers and scales, the dragon Dorg shed his skin to become Dirk, the boy hatched as a dragon… but perhaps also born human.
And now he dwelled in a world as vague and grey as the approaching dusk: a world in which he was not quite human, not quite dragon, and might revert at any moment. Living in two worlds and welcome in neither, he yearned desperately to learn where he truly belonged.
