Only I can hear your screams and decide your fate…

As the chatty classroom of kindergarten children excitedly awaits the final
bell to release them for the weekend, Chloe, racked with exhaustion,
desperately attempts to keep her eyes open. Nervously staring at the
battered wooden desk, her six-year-old mind becomes fixated on the sound of
the room’s ticking clock. Emaciated and sleep-deprived, she reluctantly
surrenders her consciousness. The innocent moment of a typical childhood
daydream quickly turns into a nightmare filled with a familiar ghoulish
entity and its torturous acts. Chloe struggles to survive the grim reality
of her hellish life in which trauma-derived monsters haunt every moment of
her existence.

About the Author

Brigitte, "Gitte," Tamar

Brigitte, “Gitte,” Tamar was born in a small rural Oregon town.
Growing up, she was enthralled by scary tales featuring poetic tones and
consistently gravitated towards writing darkened narratives. In the
different storylines, Brigitte explores the harsh realities of social issues
faced by today’s generations. This includes the dark outcomes brought on by
peer pressure, addiction, homelessness, mental illness, childhood trauma,
and abuse. She feels it is essential to share narratives that refrain from
sugarcoating the topics society tends to shy away from.

Kurt Jay Bertels

– Kurt Jay Bertels, Author –

With a deep love for nature and wildlife, Kurt came up with the idea of
Trunks Maloo and his friends to help introduce his two sons to the wonderful
characters that coexist in our world. The stories came about when Kurt was
waiting in the dark for his boys to fall asleep, and were completed while on
safari as a way to keep in touch with his family.

Having worked on safari for many years, Kurt is a new author and The story
of Trunks Maloo
is his first book in a series of four.

Anastasiya Halionka

– Anastasiya Halionka, Illustrator –

Originally from Belarus, and now living in the quaint and cozy town of
Wroclaw, Poland, Anastasiya is a self-taught artist with immense talent. She
has, to date, worked on several children’s books, and has helped
Trunks Maloo and his friends come to life in spectacular fashion.

She says, ‘When I was a child, like all children, I loved to draw and
create different images and characters – it was a place my imagination could
run free! I was not sure though if I could turn my passion into a
profession, so when I finished school I first studied law. It didn’t
take long for me to realise that I had to follow my dreams, and at 27, I
went back to my first love: drawing. This is what excites me; makes my heart
beat faster!’

Anastasiya now gets to create characters and stories that make people
happy, and leaves a lasting mark on their hearts. Her positivity in life
shows in her work, and we are very happy to have her on the Trunks Maloo
team.

About the Author

Pam got a late start in writing but has made up for it with several
published novels and a few more on the way. A serendipitous conversation
with a writer friend launched her literary career, and the fact that she
might never have had that particular conversation is enough to make her
believe that fate played a hand in sending her down the path to becoming an
author. All four of her published books have won the Mom’s Choice
Award Gold Seal, and the first book in her Pekin Dewlap Mystery series was
the winner of the American Book Fest Children’s Fiction Award.
She’s lived in Southern California most of her life and is thankful to
have a loving family and supportive friends. Spending time at home during
the COVID pandemic advanced both Pam’s writing and her relationship with her
My Cat From Hell TV star, Allie, who manages to exude just enough affection
to make her scary feral ways tolerable.

Be careful what you wish for . . .

Rory McEntyre is a lonely trusts & estates attorney who plays the hero
inside video games. Then, his old flame, Monica, walks into his office with
a $60 million winning lottery ticket and a world of trouble.

Monica’s husband, Tom, is dead, apparently from a self-inflicted
gunshot. A homicide detective considers Monica a suspect, so Rory must be
her criminal lawyer. Thugs from Tom’s shady business think Monica has
incriminating evidence Tom stole from the company, so Rory must be her
protector. Most importantly, Rory must be Monica’s private detective,
because the winning lottery ticket is missing. As Monica and Rory search for
the ticket, their relationship heats up well beyond attorney and client.
Rory has the chance to win the girl of his dreams, but does he have what it
takes to be a real hero? And is Monica everything he wants to believe she
is? If he’s not careful, Rory could end up like Tom – a Dead
Winner.

Excerpt

“Do we have a time of death yet?”

“The assistant M.E. on the scene said she couldn’t be sure, but the blood was coagulated and the corpse looked like it had been there for a few hours at least. We won’t have an official TOD until we get the autopsy back, but it didn’t seem likely the wife shot him after she came home at nine o’clock. The stiff wasn’t that fresh.”

Sullivan looked up from the report at his two detectives and blew out a breath. “You look like you got something else to say, Steve.”

George glanced at his partner, then shrugged. Steve said, “It’s just a feeling, Cap. We decided not to put anything in the report, but the wife’s behavior at the scene was . . . a little unusual.”

Sully dropped his head and said into his desktop, “OK, out with it.”

“Well, this was a pretty bloody scene. It looks like the victim put the gun in his mouth and blew out the whole back of his head. The wife said she found him and rushed to the body, rolled him over, stepped on the bloody floor, and picked up the gun. So, her prints are all over the gun, her footprints are all around the body, and it’s basically impossible to tell whether she was there when the shot was fired or came to the scene later. It seems unusual to me. What kind of fresh widow rushes over and touches the body? It’s not like there was any chance he was still breathing. But, like I said, she was pretty broken up and emotional last night, so her behavior while we were there wasn’t particularly suspicious.”

Sully scowled. “Did you test the wife for powder residue?”

          “No. She had a lawyer.”

“A lawyer? At the crime scene?”

“Yeah. It looked like they knew each other. He was looking at her like he wanted to spend some time alone with the widow. Don’t worry, Sully, we’ll cover our bases here. If there’s anything fishy, we’ll let you know.”

“OK, but don’t chase shadows here. Let the M.E. confirm it was self-inflicted. If there’s no smoke, get it closed. We’ve got actual homicides for you to chase down.”
