A Strong Female Detective Struggles with Her Past
“Detective Madison Knight…a seriously tough cookie but rightfully so. Madison had been through a lot in her life…”
–Nanette’s Book Whore-ish Obsessions
Our experiences shape who are and also have the ability to haunt us. For Detective Madison Knight, she faced a lot on the job most people would never want to see, let alone handle.
Her adult life has been devoted to finding justice for murder victims at the cost of all else. She’s visited countless crime scenes, sacrificing a social life to doggedly pursue killers. She’s stood up to her superiors at the risk of losing her job to ensure that the right man was placed behind bars. But her stubborn nature isn’t without its downside.
She couldn’t let go of that one cold case that haunted her. It taunted her to find closure, but that reward came at the highest price. At least, it almost did.
Captured by the Russian mafia, she was saying her final good-byes in her mind, thinking about her loved ones, but also making promises to herself if she got out alive. Thankfully, she was freed from the chains, but she now suffers an emotional bondage.
Debilitating flashbacks continue to haunt her on an almost daily basis, but she still has a job to do—and promises to keep to herself. Will she put able to push through and find focus so she that can find justice for the victims? You can find out from reading Deadly Impulse.

Author of Deadly Impulse (Detective Madison Knight series)
Enjoy this excerpt taken from Chapter 7 of Deadly Impulse:
“The last time you were here we talked about these events you continue to experience,” Dr. Connor said.
Dr. Connor called flashbacks and nightmares events as opposed to episodes because she found the terminology friendlier.
“Have you experienced any more since your last visit?” Dr. Connor’s pen was poised over her notepad.
Madison’s natural inclination was to refuse acknowledging what had happened earlier in the day, how the brief recollection had hit her out of nowhere, how it had affected her viscerally. Maybe it was brought on by the fact that she was coming here this afternoon. She remained hesitant about speaking her feelings out loud, even to Dr. Connor. She might not be a stranger anymore, but she was another individual. And verbalizing emotions made them real. They were easier to ignore when they remained unsaid.
“I sense that you did have an event.”
“I did,” Madison said.
“Do you want to talk about it?”
“I have a choice?” She attempted to smile but wasn’t sure it showed.
“You always have a choice, Madison. But I assume you continue coming here for a reason.”
And they both were aware of what that reason was: being held hostage by members of the Russian Mafia, having a revolver pressed to her temple, and almost being raped three months ago. The whole thing had changed her perceptions of life, of herself, and of her limitations. And it brought up a lot of unresolved anger.
Before all this, she had been strong-willed, determined, and unstoppable. Now, she was at the mercy of flashbacks that would catapult her back in time at any given moment. And they were so clear they encompassed all five senses. She heard the Russians’ voices. She felt the pressure of the gun’s barrel against her head. She smelled and tasted her own blood.
“Madison?”
She slowly lifted her eyes to meet the doctor’s. “I had a brief event this afternoon.” She paused to build her strength. “It went back to when Anatolli had the revolver to my head.”
“Ah, yes, Russian roulette?” she confirmed.
“Yes, without the Russian part.” Her saliva thickened to paste.
“We simply call it roulette when we play. The Russian part would be redundant.” Sergey paces the room. She catches the flicker in his eyes. “Anatolli’s going to pull the trigger. If you live, we will take our time with you. If you die…” He shrugs. “Well, I suppose, game over.”
Both men laugh.
The chills came over her in a flash. She rubbed her arms, the hairs standing on end.
Dr. Connor scribbled something in her notebook. “And how did this make you feel?”
“Cold.”
“Did you just have another event?”
Madison shook her head.
Dr. Connor angled her head to the left. “This only works if you’re honest with me.”
The doctor held the eye contact. Madison looked away first.
“Yes,” she admitted.
“Share with me.”
Madison slid her hands up and down her arms vigorously as she explained. The movement sounded like two sheets of sandpaper rubbing together. “This afternoon, it was, ‘On the count of three, pull the trigger.’” Her heart palpitated.
You’ve reached the end of the excerpt, but Deadly Impulse is available in e-book, paperback, and hardcover from popular retailers.

Book Overview:
Looks aren’t the only things that can be deceiving…
When a sixty-eight-year-old woman is found dead outside the hospital in a wheelchair with an anti-abortion sign strapped to its back, Detective Madison Knight expects it to be an open-and-shut case. On the surface, there are no signs of foul play, but the deeper she digs, the more convoluted the homicide becomes. And when two more bodies appear, including those of a girl just barely old enough to drink and a homeless man, the direct links between the three murders are anything but simple.
Without a consistent MO, Madison doesn’t buy that a serial killer is on the loose, despite the conviction with which her ex-fiancé and fellow detective try to convince their superior. But Madison already has enough to juggle without having to defend her reputation. Debilitating flashbacks of being held hostage by the Russian Mafia mere months before haunt her on an almost daily basis, and the promises she made to herself while in captivity are becoming more and more difficult to keep. Learning to trust is hard enough without constant reminders of what destruction—fatal or otherwise—trusting the wrong person can cause.
Now, as both personal and professional friction within the department mounts, she and her partner, Terry, must figure out what motivation could span generations to cause someone to murder these people. But catching this killer is like grasping at straws, and grabbing the wrong one could mean losing not only her pride but also her boyfriend, her credibility, and her faith in humanity…

“Ah, darlin’, you all right?”
Instead of acting annoyed or impatient, he crouched down in front of her. Then to her surprise, he reached out and gently grasped hold of her chin, raising it. She tried to turn her face away, not wanting him to see the pain and humiliation that was no doubt stamped on her face.
“Look at me,” he commanded in a low voice. But unlike earlier, his tone was soft. Almost tender.
And that was worse. If he’d growled at her, she probably would have found the gumption to climb to her feet and tell him where to go. Maybe. Possibly. But this tenderness had her floundering. And she found herself having to blink back tears. One must have slipped free, because he reached out with his thumb and wiped it away. Her heart caught then skipped a beat. He held her firmly but gently and the look in his eyes…well, she could almost imagine he cared.
Even though she knew that was ridiculous.
“Sorry,” she muttered. “Always been a bit clumsy.”
“I think I should be the one apologizing,” he said dryly. “First I make you sprint to keep up with me and then I stop without warning and send you flying. And all without telling you where we’re going.” He sighed. “I’m afraid I’ve never been one to explain myself and I seem to get worse the older I get. I’m used to having my own way.”
She wasn’t quite sure why he was telling her all this, but she nodded.
“Um, I’d like to get up.” Before anyone else came along and saw them.
He tilted his head to the side. “You in any pain?”
Well, her ass now throbbed and she was pretty sure she’d have a nice bruise there, but she shook her head. “I’m fine.”
His eyes narrowed. “You want to reconsider that answer? Because lying will get you into trouble, little girl.”

Charlie was used to fending for herself. She wasn’t necessarily that good at it, considering she was currently living in her car, but it was the only life she knew. She didn’t have family or friends and she certainly wasn’t used to anyone caring about what she did.
Clint likes to be in control. Craves it. What he doesn’t like are surprises. And that’s exactly what she is. A complete and utter shock to the system. She’s in need of a protector, a Daddy to take care of her.
But that someone can’t be him.Contains one totally Alpha Daddy Dom and a woman who manages to tug at his every protective instinct.

SYNOPSIS
Brandon:
Sabrina was my childhood friend. My first crush. My first mistake was leaving her behind. I had crushed her heart, unaware of the feelings she harbored for me. And twenty years is a long time to hold onto that grief. Now I’m back in Seattle and like fate has it, we meet again.
She might not have been my first kiss or love but I want her to be my soul-mate. My life partner.I might never be able to get over my first love, but I want Sabrina to complete me and be my new beginning.
I wish to be her knight in shining armor, saving her from the shackles of a broken marriage. A real father for her daughter, Clara.
But I have fucked up too many times in the past. She won’t trust me with her heart again. I can come close to being her friend but nothing more….
When have I ever given up, though? I try not to play unfair this time, but with Linden guiding me with his twisted antics (He stole my first love – My Gem from me or maybe it was me who first tried to snatch her from him – either way Gem is his now and he’s just returning the favor), I might actually make Sabrina fall for me.
As Brandon, I can just be her best friend, but as ‘Scott’ (Her anonymous on-line friend), I will gain her trust and woo her. No matter whom she chooses, she will end up with me and I will be everything she wants and asks for.
Twisted Connections is a Spin-Off of Love Connection Series. Every book in Twisted Connections can be read as a standalone. (It’s NOT necessary to read Love Connection Series before reading this book)

EXCERPT
Standing right in front of me, he grins and throws his arms around me, taking me in for a hug. I expect to flinch by his touch, but I don’t. I’m as still as a statue. His closeness comforts me in ways I can’t even express, but I don’t want it to. After ditching me all those years ago, he doesn’t get to come back and expect things to fall right back into place. I won’t ever let that happen. He doesn’t deserve that chance and I don’t deserve another heartbreak.
“I missed you, Rina. I really did,” He tells against my hair.
For one whole second, I let my emotions slip, and smile against his chest. But the very next second when I’m about to push him back, he beats me to it.
“Your hair color sucks.” I gasp and shove him hard.
He retreats, still grinning from ear to ear.
“You can’t be serious,” I exclaim.
“I am,” he tells very seriously, a frown lining his face. “Strawberry blonde, really? You were a brunette, Rina. No wonder I couldn’t recognize you.”
“Stop making excuses.” He throws me a challenging stare, waiting for my answer. “My husband wanted me to try this color and he loved it.” I absentmindedly run my hands along my hair. Though it’s a very nice color, I always liked my natural color. But after getting used to this, I didn’t feel like changing at all.
He doesn’t flinch at the mention of my husband, but he continues to regard me with a scowl. “I’m not sorry to say this but your husband is definitely blind.”
“Beauty lies in beholders’ eye, Brandon. Just because you don’t like it, doesn’t make him blind,” I rebuke.
He pinches the bridge of his nose, his eyes crinkling at the corners. “It’s not about beauty. He’s blind to not see that this is not what you want. He was blind to not have seen how much you liked your natural hair.”
How can he be so ignorant and yet so right? He saw right through me in a single minute whereas even after many years of living together with James, he couldn’t understand such a simple thing.
“Ex-husband,” I admit in a small voice.
His lips upturn and a bright smile adorns his face.
“So, is your current husband blind too?” he asks with a frown.
“I don’t have one,” I snap, and his face actually glows now.
“Then it’s high time you fix an appointment with the parlor,” he orders.
I bite back a witty response and just walk past him. Talking to him more will either infuriate me or make me like him more and I don’t want to feel either of the two emotions.
