Synopsis: What would you do if on your way home from your boring work, all of a sudden a handsome stranger leaps into the back of your car and asks you to drive him to the airport?

Be terrified? Threaten him and hope he gets out and leaves you alone? Those were my first instincts as well.

There was something in his eyes, something in the words he said that made me pause though. What if this beautiful man really did need my help? What if my refusal meant not only that his safety hung in the balance, but that of the entire country? So I drove him to Heathrow Airport, and my adventure began…

MAN OF MYSTERY – CHAPTER 1

What a day. I sigh and rest my forehead against the steering wheel. After getting called in for my semi-annual appraisal and having all my achievements from the past six months swept under the rug because Karen took credit for them, I can’t imagine how today could get any worse.

Of course, traffic can always worsen any day. It’s warm, too warm to be driving a twenty-year-old rust-bucket without air conditioning. And opening the window does nothing except let in more hot air and fumes from the thousands of cars surrounding me in what has got to be a record for west London. The traffic is spectacularly horrible for a Thursday.

Can’t I catch a fucking break?

I pick up my mobile and after scanning the surrounding vehicles, I figure it’s safe enough to make a call. No coppers around at the moment. The last thing I need is another ticket.

“Hey, Maggie?” I say, greeting the groggy voice on the other end of the line.

“Yeah, Tess, what’s up?”

“Nothing. Same old, life’s a bitch. Shall we go out tonight? I could use the distraction.” The car ahead of me moves but I decide it’s not worth the effort to put mine in first gear, just to creep ahead four feet.

“Sounds great, but I have a date, and then straight to work. Another day perhaps?” Maggie yawns on the other end. Typical, ever since she’s started working the midnight shift at the airport, her routine has been all over the place.

“A date, huh? I’m jealous. Who’s the lucky guy?” I ask, even though I already suspect it’s that guy she works with, Alec, whom she’s been going on about nonstop lately.

“I finally decided enough is enough and asked out Alec. You know nowadays you can’t sit back and wait for men to make the first move. That’s all in the past. The dating scene is all about equal opportunities.”

“Mhm, if you say so. I guess I’m a bit old-fashioned that way.” Which is probably why I haven’t had a date in months.

“Say, you wanna talk about what’s going on? I have a little while before I need to start getting ready.”

“Thanks. Well, as I said. Same old.” I sigh, and squeeze the bridge of my nose to get rid of the beginnings of a tension headache.

“Your boss, Frank-something still bothering you?”

“No, I mean yes. Sort of. I had my appraisal today. Can you believe it? Of all my suggestions which were actually implemented these past six months, none of that was mentioned. That tart I told you about, Karen, presented everything like it was her idea, after making me do the groundwork. And now it looks like I’ve been doing fuck all and I’m not pulling my weight,” I rant.

“I see. Same old indeed. What can you do? People like her will do anything to get ahead, even if it means trampling those in her way. Keep calm, bide your time and return the favor or find another job. No other option.”

“Another job where? I ought to be grateful I have one at all with the way things have been going.” I take a deep breath and grip the steering wheel tighter until my knuckles turn white. I wonder if things ever get easier.

“True. If you ever change your mind on shift work, I could ask around at work?”

“Thanks, Maggie. That’s very sweet. I’ll let you know.” I’m getting desperate, but I’m not ready to work nights. Yet.

“Sure thing, Tess. OK, I’d better have a shower and all. I want to look my best for tonight.”

“Break a leg. And if he turns out to be a dick, I’ll break both of his.”

“Cheers. I’ll let you know how it goes.”

I put down the phone again, feeling slightly better after venting to Maggie. What are friends for, eh? The space in front of my car has opened up even further and I finally do pull ahead.

Metal boxes in all shapes and sizes as far as the eye can see. Perhaps there’s an accident up ahead. It’s going to take at least an hour to get to the motorway from here in this mess. That means I won’t make it home until God knows when.

Urgh. I rest my head back on the steering, wondering if anyone would notice if I had a short nap behind the wheel.

The click of my rear door followed by a gust of air causes a cold shiver to creep down my spine. Someone’s behind me!

“What the hell?” I instinctively snatch up my handbag and phone from the passenger seat while turning around as best I can to face the intruder.

“Shh…” The man cowering half on the back seat makes a calming motion with his hand, but doesn’t look directly at me. My heart is hammering in my throat, threatening to make me freeze up, but I react almost on autopilot anyway.

“Get out! Get the hell out of my car!” I shout, while rummaging furiously in my purse. “I have pepper spray.” My fingers grasp a small deodorant bottle. “And I’m not afraid to use it!”

“Be careful with that, if you blind yourself we’re both done for.” His gentle and calm tone surprises me. If he’s trying to mug me, he’s got a strange technique.

“I… what do you mean, we’re both done for?” I’m still pointing the deodorant bottle in his general direction, but am suddenly not so sure I want to spray him with it.

“I need you to drive. I swear I have a good reason to get into your car. Also, you’ve got that the wrong way around.”

My fingers shake even more intensely as he reaches out for the can, and twists the nozzle in his direction.

“There.”

“Shit. I’m sorry. Thanks. I mean…” Why the hell am I apologizing to this criminal? Still, I feel like a total idiot for threatening to spray him with what is essentially perfume. I suppose it would hurt if it ends up in his eye, but it’s not quite mace, is it? I lower my hand and take a proper look at him.

The stranger is still sort of hiding half in the foot well and half on the seat, skittishly looking out the window, while sneaking glances in my direction. He doesn’t look like a mugger. But then, I’ve never been mugged, how would I know what a mugger looks like?

Still, his suit and shirt make him look more like a businessman than a criminal. Or a waiter perhaps.

“Good thing you’re no longer intent on making me smell like… Lush Lavender, is it? Yeah. Not really my style,” he says with a subtle smile on his face.

A joke, really? Now?

“There’s no accounting for taste,” I respond, while keeping my gaze fixed on his eyes. Green, bright, focused. “Now, if you don’t mind explaining yourself.”

“Of course. What would you say if I told you that there are some very bad people heading to Heathrow right now with a cargo that could destroy the world as we know it?” he says.

“I would ask if you’ve been drinking.” I continue to stare at him, but he’s unfazed by my reaction and smiles again. How is he so calm? This whole thing has got to be a joke.

My Lady My Spy Cover

He’s a spy— Certain truths aren’t his to share…

London, 1854 ~ Frederick Woolsy is Queen Victoria’s finest spy. His mission at the Russian Embassy’s annual ball is one of the most critical ones of his life, but his careful plans end in disaster. The book he was assigned to secure has been stolen and now England and Russia are on the brink of war. Even worse, the love of his life has caught him in another lie (he’s a spy, certain lies are expected). However, in this case, it might mean he’ll lose her forever.

She’s a lady who demands honesty– above all else

The nights Lady Josephine Harrington spent with Frederick in her bed were glorious… enough to tempt her to consider abandoning her independence as a wealthy widow to spend her life with him. Tonight, he canceled their plans to attend the Russian Embassy’s ball, saying he would be otherwise engaged. Now he’s shown up at the event with his brother. She’s not sure what he’s up to, but she’s going to find out…if she doesn’t eviscerate him first.

Secrets and lies

He lives in a world of shadows. She values truth and integrity. If they want to find a future together, something has to change. Fast.

EXCERPT – MY LADY, MY SPY

Josephine finally escaped the crowded ballroom and entered the foyer. She looked around, but found no sign of Frederick or his brother. They’d both disappeared.

Movement above her on the balcony caught her attention. Was that Frederick? When he spotted her, he ducked out of sight, but she’d seen him. Of that she was certain.

Why had he gone up there? Was he merely curious about the building’s renovations? She dismissed the idea. There was more than mere curiosity driving his actions.

She moved toward the staircase, intending to follow him, but a large footman stepped in front of her, blocking the way.

“Upstairs area is restricted,” the man said in a thick Russian accent. “No guests allowed.”

Josephine glanced at the balcony again, but couldn’t spot Frederick. She knew better than to mention his flouting of the rules to the footman. Frederick must have evaded him by taking an alternate route upstairs.

She acquiesced and stepped away, glancing around the grand foyer. She spotted a door on the far side of the room leading toward the embassy offices. It wasn’t guarded. Perhaps she’d find another staircase back there.

A children’s choir began singing. The other guests around her moved. As a group passed between her and the man guarding the staircase, Josephine slipped through a side door and found herself in a corridor lined with embassy offices. There should be another, less opulent staircase nearby.

The office doors were all closed, but about halfway down the hallway she noticed one standing slightly ajar. She hurried closer to open it and when she discovered a servants’ staircase, she grinned. Frederick must have taken this route.

Josephine lifted the hem of her skirt and crept up the stairs. Her night around would end in disaster if she ran into one of the embassy’s servants. Those Russian footmen looked intimidating.

She paused when she reached the landing. The door leading to the corridor was closed, but she heard someone just outside. She paused as she tried to identify the odd shuffling sound that seemed to be moving away from her.

Cautiously, she edged open the door and peeked into the hallway. A man was sliding a cloth along the floor with his shoe, wiping up what appeared to be water.

Not just any man. Frederick.

She pushed open the door and stepped through.

At the sound, he spun to face her. His jaw dropped as his piercing blue eyes widened in surprise.“Josephine? What in blazes are you doing up here?”

“You canceled our plans for tonight. Imagine my surprise when you strolled through the ballroom.” She gave him a cold smile. “I thought I’d give you an opportunity to explain yourself before I set the dogs on you, so to speak.”

Her Heart’s Desire Cover Reveal

Historical Romance (Viking)
Date Published: 5/24/2016
One woman’s desire will unite enemies and raise heroes.
Weary of battle and loss, Idunna Fundinsdottir has two desires–peace and to hold a child of her own. As a war widow, her one chance at happiness rests in the hands of Eoghann Kentigern, a man who was once her enemy. Despite their differences, she saves the mysterious Saxon from the noose and binds herself to him in marriage. She longs for a child, but the fair Saxon tempts her heart as well.
In a moment of clarity, Eoghann killed his brother in battle to save his long-lost sister, then vowed his fealty to a Norse king. When a plot to murder the king and his family comes to light, to repay his debts, Eoghann takes his family’s life in his hands and flees for safety. Forced to return to Suibhne, his childhood home, he faces the choice of becoming the man he wished to be, or remaining the coward who stood in his brother’s shadow for too long. To keep Idunna safe and his vows to his king, he must stand and fight or lose everything.
EXCERPT
“If you hurt her, I will gut you.”
Eoghann Kentigern swallowed, but held the iron hard stare with his brother-in-law, King Hella Ingvasson. To break it would show cowardice and he didn’t mean to reveal his underbelly to the most powerful man in the settlement.
Hella’s threat was unnecessary. Hurt Idunna, the woman who had saved his life when she had every reason to hate him?
“You have my word, Your Grace.” His voice wasn’t as strong as he would have liked, but even weak, it was better than having no voice at all. Without Idunna’s intervention, his head would be rotting on a pike somewhere.
Hella narrowed his eyes and jerked his chin at the curtain separating Idunna Fundinsdottir’s room from the hallway. Eoghann’s room now too since he’d vowed to protect and honor her a few hours earlier.
He sucked in a breath and pushed the curtain aside. On legs stiff as aged wood, he crossed the floor. Idunna waited for him blank-faced and rigid in a bed piled high with blankets and a shaggy gray wolf pelt. She didn’t meet his gaze when he lifted the bridal crown of woven vines. It tangled in her seal brown hair and she flinched as he gave a little tug.
“Forgive me,” he murmured. He didn’t need Hella, the king’s faithful brothers, nephew, and the other two men tagging along as witnesses to this charade believing he’d harmed her on purpose.
She said nothing as she folded her hands together.
He carried the crown to Hella, then held it out. The king took it with another sharp look, then allowed the curtain to swing into place.
Eoghann’s shoulders slumped as the sound of footsteps retreated from the doorway. Norsemen seldom invented an excuse not to attend a celebration. Apparently the queen’s traitor brother’s wedding claimed the exception as an event few of them could stomach. Aside from Hella, Ealasaid, Erik, Bjorn, their wives and children, the turn out had been abysmal. The shame of marrying a woman only to save his life almost caused Eoghann to flee. Might have, if Hella hadn’t been guarding him all day.
He faced Idunna, but his feet froze and dread weighed him down.
They were alone for the first time since he’d come to Solstad. Alone with a woman who couldn’t possibly love him because of the slaughter he’d helped bring to the neighboring village of Freysteinn. One of the warriors he’d marched with to slay the vikingrs had killed her first husband. Only a mad man would pretend Idunna could ever forgive him.
In Norse custom, they were supposed to consummate their marriage, which would tie them together as one in the community. The rituals of cleansing steams and baths before the wedding were meant to help them cast off their old lives. No amount of scrubbing or herbs would fix him. Not after what he’d done. He was the reason her first husband—the one she loved—was in the ground.

“A good man always takes care of his girl,” Mac said quietly.

Melina’s eyes opened again at those words. “But I’m not really your girl, Mac.”

“So? I should still take care of you.”

“What if I was?”

“My girl?” Mac asked.

“Yes.”

Mac cocked a brow, eyeing Melina as she grabbed a loofa off the ledge of the tub and began dropping dollops of milky colored body wash onto the frilly cloth. “I don’t understand what you’re asking.”

Melina drew the loofa over her arms, covering her slick skin in white suds. “If I was your girl, then what would you do, Mac?”

Ah.

Mac smiled, leaned forward, and snatched the loofa from Melina’s hand. He ignored her quiet ‘hey’ and started running the loofa up and down her legs with smooth, long strokes.

“Mac, I asked you a question,” Melina said.

“I would spoil you rotten,” Mac said, shooting her a look through his hair that had fallen down over his gaze. “Whatever you wanted, whether you needed it or not, I would make it happen. I’d make damn sure you felt as beautiful as you looked, regardless of what you needed to feel that way. I’d take you out every chance I could just to show you off to the people who can’t have you because you’re all mine. But I’d have my fucking hands on you all night so that they knew to stay away. It’d probably feel like my fingerprints were burned into your skin because I’d be holding you that tight.”

Melina’s tongue peeked out to wet her bottom lip. “What else?”

“I’d always keep an eye on you, even if you didn’t know I was doing it, just to make sure you were good and safe. I’d wake you up in the morning, every single morning, with my hands all over you and my mouth kissing all the spots I could find. I’d make sure that whenever you were stressed out, or something was on your mind, bothering you, that you could take some time away from life and the world to be just you again. Simple stuff, you know.”

“Simple.” Melina scoffed. “Right. That sounds more like worshipping, Mac.”

Mac didn’t see the difference. “If a man cares enough, worshipping his woman should be the simplest, easiest, and most obvious thing for him to do every day, doll. She should be the most important thing on his mind. The first and last thing he considers every day and night.”

Melina’s gaze flitted from Mac’s face and then down to the bubbly water. “Oh.”

Oddly, it bothered Mac like nothing else that he could tell Melina had never been given the pleasure of having a man treasure her like she should be treasured. No one had every loved her enough to worship the very ground she walked on, or had seen her for the beautiful gift she truly was.

It nagged in his chest.

Poked at him like a needle.

Over and over.

Like a damned tattoo was being penned permanently to his skin, reminding him that Melina deserved someone who would treasure and treat her the way she should be cared for. Didn’t he have enough going on where this girl was concerned without adding something like that to the pile as well?

Mac sighed, shaking off the strange feeling. “I suppose it doesn’t matter, anyway.”

Melina sucked in a quiet breath before asking, “Why not?”

“You’re not mine, doll. Or at least, you don’t want to be.”

Melina didn’t respond, but she wouldn’t meet Mac’s eyes again.

He continued washing her stress away.

Mac didn’t need a response.

Lethal Temptations Full Jacket Cover

EXCERPT – LETHAL TEMPTATIONS

This was Lace.
My angel.
And I was the reason she looked so conflicted. There was no maker to blame, just me.
Say it.
I see you.
“I see you, Lace,” I whispered.
“A lot of good that does me,” she replied.
I shook my head.
“No good at all,” I affirmed as I extended my hand, taking hers and pulling her against me. “You’d be better off if I never laid eyes on you,” I added, squeezing her hand before I lifted my free one to her cheek. “Too late,” I hissed. “Cause girl, I see you and now I can’t fucking forget you,” I admitted.
The song changed on her iPod and music filtered through the speakers. I watched recognition spark in her eyes as she turned her attention to the speaker.
“Did you ever hear this song?” She asked softly, her voice blending into the music.
“No,” I said, taking a step toward her, bending my knees and bringing us to eye level. I leaned my forehead against hers, taking our joined hands and bringing them behind her to rest against the small of her back.
I didn’t know what the fuck I was doing but I couldn’t stop.
My lips grazed her temple as she pressed her body against mine, dropping our joined hands to wrap both her arms around my neck.
“Listen to the words,” she demanded.
You’re saying I’m fragile I try not to be
I search for something only I can’t see
“Will you dance with me?” Her voice pleaded as she whispered the question.
I learned then that even the toughest motherfuckers had weaknesses and mine was standing in front of me asking me to dance.
I didn’t fucking dance.
But now I did.
My feet surrendered my soul, taking the steps to bring me closer to her and give her what she needed. I’ve been feeding off her light for so long, taking the sweetness of her greedily because I’ve become addicted to the hope she sparks in me.
Hope that there was a shred of decency buried beneath the leather.
Repay her.
Give her back her wings.
Make it better.
Looking at her now, the selfish reasons that brought me here faded away and are replaced by the need to put her first. To put her before me, to give her back her light and pull her from the sadness that had her crying in solitude.
Just this once I could do the healing and not the reaping.
My hands moved down her back, cupping her ass beneath the t-shirt that barely covered her and I rocked her against my body.
“Blackie,” she whispered.
“Lacey,” I groaned. “I didn’t come here for this,” I said, slipping my fingers beneath her lace panties.
“I know why you came here,” she said, pulling back a fraction as her gaze dipped to my lips. “But I will do everything I can to change your mind,” she promised.
It wouldn’t take much.
