Synopsis: Burned, Felix Sinclair has all but vowed never to get seriously involved with another woman as long as he lives. After a long day’s work, Felix Sinclair is looking forward to getting back to his luxury apartment in the city. When he detours onto a road less traveled in order to shave off some travel time, the last thing he expects is to wind up stranded in a roadside ditch in the middle of a downpour–or to fall into the arms of a beautiful woman.

Recently divorced, jobless, friendless and utterly alone, Poppy Montgomery is struggling to convince herself that single life is what she wants–needs. Then a handsome stranger staggers into her life and sparks fly. Riding out the storm together is bound to stir up heat, but once it passes, will they be able to walk away?

AUTHOR’S NOTE: STRANDED is the first in an interconnected series of erotic romance. Each book can be read as a stand alone, but you will find that each new character has been previously introduced in some way. As an introduction to the series, STRANDED is a novella, but rest assured each new addition will be a full length novel worth sinking your teeth into.

EXCERPT

As he rocked against her, she could feel his length probing her entrance, and she lifted her hips, eager to take him in.

Felix laughed and pulled his hips back. Poppy groaned her displeasure. “So impatient.” He kissed her forehead and smoothed her hair away from her face as he gazed down at her. “Not yet, kitten. First things first. Do you have any condoms in here?”

Startled, Poppy shook her head. She didn’t think she would ever find herself in this situation again, so she never thought to keep any on hand. Sex hadn’t been the farthest thing from her mind, exactly, but having it with a man certainly had been. She had even stopped taking her birth control. And here she was, preparing to let some guy she’d known for two minutes plunge himself into her, and she hadn’t even thought about protection of any kind. She wanted to slap herself for being so stupid.

“That’s okay,” Felix assured her. “I have a couple in my wallet. I just have to go and get them.” He pushed himself off her and Poppy squirmed from the loss. “I’ll be right back.”

She watched as he walked away, completely naked and not caring in the least. He looked almost as good walking away, she thought, smirking to herself. Lying in complete silence made the time stretch on forever. Bo shifted in the corner and huffed loudly, and Poppy’s head snapped up. He was staring at her in that way that animals sometimes do that makes you feel completely exposed and a little shameful.

“What?” Poppy asked, refusing to feel guilty. “I’m not doing anything wrong.” Bo tilted his big head and looked at her quizzically. “Don’t look at me like that. When you go without sex for as long as I have, then we can talk. Besides, he seems like a perfectly nice guy, and I don’t see you kicking up a fuss.”

Felix strode into the room then and looked at her strangely. “Who are you talking to?”

Propped on her forearms, Poppy smiled shyly. “Just Bo.”

“Ah.” He glanced back at Bo. “I don’t think he likes me.”

Poppy waved him off. “If he didn’t like you, I think you’d be missing a limb right now. Bo is very protective of me, and the fact that he hasn’t tried to kill you for touching me yet is pretty telling.”

“Yet being the operative word,” Felix muttered as he climbed onto the bed and settled himself between her legs again. He held up a foil packet. “I wonder how old Bo is going to react when his master is screaming to the heavens.” He wagged his eyebrows at her and tore the foil open with his teeth.

“Screaming, huh?” Poppy’s belly clenched with anticipation. She watched as he rolled the condom down his erection.

“Oh yes,” he assured her with a wicked smile.

When he positioned himself at her opening, Poppy drew back slightly. “I thought you said we were taking things slow?”

Dropping down onto his forearm, Felix kissed her lips lightly and pushed the tip of his erection into her. Poppy sucked in a breath. “I did say that, but then I came back to find you all spread out, waiting for me, and I changed my mind. I won’t lie, this time will be fast. But after that, I’m going to take all the time in the world to get to know this body.”

“I—Ah!”

Felix shoved his way into her body and Poppy nearly came undone. He was bigger than she was used to and he stretched her, touching every inch of her and creating a delicious friction that threatened to push her over the edge. He was right. This would be fast.

Is Peter next?

Trapped on the ship with an insidious killer, shadows seem more ominous and even the most innocent faces seem sinister. Has Charlie inadvertently put Marian in harm’s way? How long does Charlie have before the hunter becomes the hunted?

HARDENED BY STEEL BY J.B. HAVENS

hardened by steel coverARE YOU HARDENED BY STEEL?

It’s been two months since Phillips was killed in front of us. Two months of training and waiting. Time is up and another new recruit is due to arrive any minute; the cousin of the man who betrayed us all. The guys aren’t going to like it, but Jackson has overridden my protests.
Just when I didn’t think things could get any worse, my contact with Aunt Beatrice is discovered and my actions have put her in mortal danger. A hit was ordered from a cartel in Mexico. Led by the cousin of Diego Fernando’s widow, the Vega Cartel has a blood debt to settle and they have come to collect.
Jordon is becoming more attractive to me by the day; as my feelings for him continue to grow, our situation becomes even more complicated when our connection is discovered by one of the team.
Events spiral out of my control, forcing me to face my demons and darkest fears. I find myself teetering on the edge of good and evil, poised to fall.
A sinister message has me racing to Mexico, trying to beat the dawn. What I find waiting for me there may spell the end of my life and Steel Corps itself.
I must decide; am I hard enough to make this choice? Is my soul a big enough sacrifice for the lives of innocents? There is no question. I am Staff Sergeant Michaels and I am Steel.

BOOL DESCRIPTION COURTESY OF AMAZON

I was given a copy of this book by the Author for an honest review.
Hardened by Steel (Steel Corps Book 2) is the second book in this series and it delivers a great story. The characters and story line are well-developed. The story follows a secret part of the military that no one knows exists. “Mac” is the leader of this group, and she is recovering from events from book one CORE OF STEEL. They get a new member of the STEEL CORPS to replace a fallen member. There are members of this group that are not happy with their member, because he is the cousin of the one who betrayed them. They will have to get over this prejudice and deal with the case ahead of them. This mission will show how HARDENED BY STEEL they really are. If you love military stories them you will love this one. I loved the characters in this book. If you have not started this series then I urge you to do so. I am putting J.B. Haven on my authors to watch out for list. I will definitely read more books from this author. I give HARDENED BY STEEL 5/5 STARS.

Carolyn Brown brings her unique voice to this tale of twin sisters finding love in a small Texas town

But even as the town is laying bets on whose wedding will be next, Cathy doesn’t see happily-ever-after happening anytime soon.

Fortunately, Cathy and Marty have best friends who aren’t afraid to stir up a ruckus—and if it means Cathy’s got to bust out and set the town on its ear they’ll back her up—no matter how hot things get.

An Excerpt:

If Prissy Parnell hadn’t married Buster Jones and left Cadillac, Texas, for Pasadena, California, Marty wouldn’t have gotten the speeding ticket. It was all Prissy’s damn fault that Marty was in such a hurry to get to the Blue-Ribbon Jalapeño Society monthly meeting that night, so Prissy ought to have to shell out the almost two hundred dollars for that ticket.

They were already passing around the crystal bowl to take up the voting ballots when Marty slung open the door to Violet Prescott’s sunroom and yelled, “Don’t count ’em without my vote.”

Twenty faces turned to look at her and not a one of them, not even her twin sister, Cathy, was smiling. Hell’s bells, who had done pissed on their cucumber sandwiches before she got there, anyway? A person didn’t drop dead from lack of punctuality, did they?

One wall of the sunroom was glass and looked out over lush green lawns and flower gardens. The other three were covered with shadow boxes housing the blue ribbons that the members had won at the Texas State Fair for their jalapeño pepper entries. More than forty shadow boxes all reminding the members of their history and their responsibility for the upcoming year. Bless Cathy’s heart for doing her part. She had a little garden of jalapeños on the east side of the lawn and nurtured them like children. The newest shadow box held ribbons that she’d earned for the club with her pepper jelly and picante. It was the soil, or maybe she told them bedtime stories, but she, like her mamma and grandma, grew the hottest jalapeños in the state.

“It appears that Martha has decided to grace us with her presence once again when it is time to vote for someone to take our dear Prissy’s place in the Blue-Ribbon Jalapeño Society. We really should amend our charter to state that a member has to attend more than one meeting every two years. You could appreciate the fact that we did amend it once to include you in the membership with your sister, who, by the way, has a spotless attendance record,” Violet said.

Violet, the queen of the club, as most of the members called it, was up near eighty years old, built like SpongeBob SquarePants, and had stovepipe jet-black hair right out of the bottle. Few people had the balls or the nerve to cross her, and those who did were put on her shit list right under Martha, aka Marty, Andrews’ name, which was always on the top.

Back in the beginning of the club days, before Marty was even born, the mayor’s wife held the top position on the shit list. When they’d formed the Blue-Ribbon Jalapeño Society, Loretta Massey and Violet almost went to war over the name of the new club. Loretta insisted that it be called a society, and Violet wanted it to be called a club. Belonging to a club just sounded so much fancier than saying that one belonged to a society. Loretta won when the vote came in, but Violet called it a club anyway and that’s what stuck. Rumor had it that Violet was instrumental in getting the mayor ousted just so they’d have to leave Grayson County and Loretta would have to quit the club.

Marty hated it when people called her Martha. It sounded like an old woman’s name. What was her mother thinking anyway when she looked down at two little identical twin baby daughters and named them after her mother and aunt—Martha and Catherine? Thank God she’d at least shortened their names to Marty and Cathy.

Marty shrugged, and Violet snorted. Granted, it was a ladylike snort, but it still went right along with her round face and three-layered neck. Hell, if they wanted to write forty amendments to the charter, Marty would still do only the bare necessities to keep her in voting standing. She hadn’t even wanted to be in the damned club and had only done it because if she didn’t, then Cathy couldn’t.

Marty slid into a seat beside her sister and held up her ballot.

Beulah had the bowl in hand and was ready to hand it off to Violet to read off the votes. But she passed it to the lady on the other side of her and it went back around the circle to Marty, who tossed in her folded piece of paper. If she’d done her homework and gotten the numbers right, that one vote should swing the favor for Anna Ruth to be the new member of the club. She didn’t like Anna Ruth, especially since she’d broken up her best friend’s marriage. But hey, Marty had made a deathbed promise to her mamma, and that carried more weight than the name of a hussy on a piece of paper.

The bowl went back to Violet and she put it in her lap like the coveted jeweled crown of a reigning queen. “Our amended charter states that only twenty-one women can belong to the Blue-Ribbon Jalapeño Society at any one time, and the only time we vote a new member in is when someone moves or dies. Since Prissy Parnell got married this past week and moved away from Grayson County, we are open for one new member. The four names on the ballet are: Agnes Flynn, Trixie Matthews, Anna Ruth Williams, and Gloria Rawlings.”

Even though it wasn’t in the fine print, everyone knew that when attending a meeting, the members should dress for the occasion, which meant panty hose and heels. Marty could feel nineteen pairs of eyes on her. It would have been twenty, but Violet was busy fishing the first ballot from the fancy bowl.

Marty threw one long leg over the other and let the bright red, three-inch-heeled shoe dangle on her toe. They could frown all they wanted. She was wearing a dress, even if it only reached midthigh, and had black spandex leggings under it. If they wanted her to wear panty hose, they’d better put a second amendment on that charter and make it in big print.

God Almighty, but she’d be glad when her great-aunt died and she could quit the club. But it looked like Agnes was going to last forever, which was no surprise. God sure didn’t want her in heaven, and the devil wouldn’t have her in hell.

“One vote for Agnes,” Violet said aloud.

Beulah marked that down on the minutes and waited.

Violet enjoyed her role as president of the club and took her own sweet time with each ballot. Too bad she hadn’t dropped dead or at least moved to California so Cathy could be president. Marty would bet her sister would get those votes counted a hell of a lot faster.

There was one piece of paper in the candy dish when Beulah held up a hand. “We’ve got six each for Agnes, Trixie, Anna Ruth, and two for Gloria. Unless this last vote is for Agnes, Trixie, or Anna Ruth, we have a tie, and we’ll have to have a runoff election.”

“Shit!” Marty mumbled.

Cathy shot her a dirty look.

“Anna Ruth,” Violet said and let out a whoosh of air.

A smile tickled the corner of Marty’s mouth.

Saved, by damn!

Agnes was saved from prison.

Violet was saved from attending her own funeral.

The speeding ticket was worth every penny.

Synopsis:  Adrian can’t take it anymore. Lately, his job with the Alliance seems to be less about protecting shifters from their enemies, and more about surveilling his own people and making sure they don’t break any Alliance rules. This is not what he signed up for, so it’s time for him to make a change. There’s only one problem: his mate and colleague Margaret isn’t on board at all, in fact they can’t seem to agree on anything lately.

Meanwhile, Alliance leader Adrian Blacke’s new assistant, Gail McPherson is having similar trouble adjusting to her job. The ideals that made her join the Alliance don’t match up with her day-to-day reality and she yearns for something else.

When the two of them meet, sparks fly, and they even start to hear each other’s thoughts, like only true mates can. But Henry already has a mate whom he wants to remain loyal to, despite their disagreements. If Henry and Gail can’t be lovers, at least they can be allies in a new cause: forming a New Alliance. What ensues is a battle between sense and emotion; loyalty and fate.

This paranormal romance novella is the fifth in the Scottish Werebear series. For the best experience, readers are advised to read the series in order.

EXCERPT – A PAINFUL DILEMMA

Henry hadn’t wanted a fight, but things had a way of escalating between him and Maggie.

“Why don’t you trust me anymore?” Maggie folded her arms.

“Come on; it’s not like that!” Henry argued, taking a step forward to rest his hand on Maggie’s arm.

She pulled away just in time and shook her head. “Well, there’s no other explanation. First, you go on the surveillance mission on your own, then you don’t even involve me in the interrogation of that prisoner you took. Tell me, what am I supposed to think?”

Henry sighed. In a way, she was right. He hadn’t wanted her to come along to Gartcosh to surveil Matt’s house the other day. It’s not that he didn’t trust her, or didn’t think she’d do a good job. Actually, he expected she’d do too good a job. She would have followed Blacke’s orders to the letter, so they would have ended up with three prisoners, not just one. Caroline Pratt was a given, she was a Son’s collaborator after all, but Maggie would have also rounded up Matt and Leah.

He and Maggie had been an item for years; Henry knew how she functioned.

As for the interrogation, he just couldn’t risk Caroline cracking and mentioning the pictures she’d taken. Luckily, so far she seemed to hold up quite well and not said a word.

“Blacke gave me the order; it’s only natural that I execute it,” Henry excused his decision.

He had to come clean to her about what had happened, but with Maggie in the mood she was in right now, it wasn’t the right time. She’d always been hot-blooded, and not particularly easy to reason with when she was ticked off.

“Did Blacke tell you not to take your partner along on the job?” Maggie demanded.

Henry remained quiet. Of course, he hadn’t.

“I didn’t think so.”

She was hurt, obviously. And Henry couldn’t blame her. But if there was one thing he had to give her credit for, she did take her work very seriously.

“Look, I didn’t mean to step on your toes, but I can’t have you questioning my operational decisions like this. When we’re on the job, I’m in charge. That’s just the way things are.”

“Fine!” Maggie pressed her lips together. There was nothing agreeable about her body language.

“Now, shall we have breakfast? Wouldn’t want to be late for work.”

Maggie shrugged and marched out of their bedroom. Although he’d pulled the seniority card on her, this argument was far from over.

Today was going to be a long day.

For much of the day, Maggie made it a point to steer clear of Henry, which was just as well. They weren’t hiding their relationship as such, but they made it a point to always stay professional at work.

Henry liked to think of himself as a fair and capable leader. His agents trusted him – most of the time, in the case of Maggie – and he ensured not to give preferential treatment to his mate. Plus, bears weren’t the sharing sort. They didn’t wear their hearts on their sleeve like wolves seemed to do. In his unit, one’s private life was just that: private.

Before lunch, Henry interrogated his latest prisoner – Caroline Pratt – some more. Nothing came out of it, just as he had come to expect from most of the Sons of Domnall members. Especially those that seemed to be authority figures of some sort were especially tight-lipped. Caroline’s demeanor, as well as her role in the attempted second kidnapping of Matthew Argyle, made Henry suspect she wasn’t just an informant, but perhaps a faction leader.

Then again, she wasn’t in the loop on a great many Sons activities at all, or she might have already known who or what Matt was.

Either way, it was time to close the file on her and send her and the other prisoners across to Stirling, where the Alliance Headquarters were located. Henry wrote up a sanitized version of the events leading up to Caroline’s capture, whatever little details he gathered during the interrogation, and that was that. Case closed. He’d inform Blacke’s people shortly.

Once that was done, he grabbed a fresh sheet of paper and started to brainstorm about something else entirely. He’d had an epiphany outside Matt’s house that day, but he hadn’t taken the time to really think about it in depth. If he was going to set up a movement to counter Blacke’s Alliance, he couldn’t just wing it.
