Four-year-old Ross admires his older cousin, Eric, and wants to be just
like him. And for good reason—Eric is an excellent role model, a
superhero in Ross’s eyes. In My MVP and Me, Ross asks his mom to make
him just like Eric. With a little help from his mom, Ross learns that the
activities he enjoys with Eric such as playing football, body-slamming, and
laughing are just a small part of what it means to be an MVP. Ross learns
that he can follow the example of Eric’s attitudes and actions without
being just like him in every way: heroes come in all shapes, sizes, and
colors!

Dual Language Books for Children ( Bilingual English-Spanish).

Join Luna, a determined and caring girl, on her journey to make a
difference in the world. Through her simple daily routine of planting trees,
Luna inspires the animals of the forest, including her owl friends Churros
and Panela, to take action against the destruction of their home. When
disaster strikes and the Buhouho family is left homeless, Luna’s unwavering
dedication to planting trees proves to be the key to restoring their beloved
forest. With beautiful illustrations and a heartwarming message, “Luna,
the Girl Who Planted a Forest” is a captivating tale that will leave
children inspired to make a difference in their own world.

¨Luna’s understanding of the value of trees is prescient. For all of
human existence, the role of trees was understood as a necessity for
survival. The deforestation that Luna is witnessing in this story has
implications for two interrelated environmental problems – biodiversity loss
and climate change. Luna’s instinct is in sync with the international
conservation community’s focus on the need to restore our planet’s degraded
habitats. We must act on ecosystem restoration to address climate change,
which includes the added benefits of safeguarding biodiversity, creating
jobs, and securing our food supply. The United Nations highlighted this need
by declaring 2020 – 2029 as the “Decade of Ecosystem Restoration.”
Luna’s initiative in this book’s story is in the spirit of that important
effort. In the face of massive, intertwined deforestation and climate
change, what can one person do? It is easy to get overwhelmed by the
challenges. Whether you live in an apartment and can nurture a s all
fishtail palm in a pot near a window or have a yard with space for a mighty
oak tree, you can make a difference. If you learn more about your tree’s
natural and cultural history, that knowledge will lead you to respect it and
care about that species even more. Over time, as you watch your tree grow
and thrive, you can do so knowing that you are its guardian and partner in
fostering a shared, sustainable planet. Luna learned this lesson well and
sets a wonderful, inspirational example in this book’s story.¨ – Brian
Boom, Curator Emeritus, New York Botanical Garden.

On launch day of NASA’s long-awaited expedition to explore Jupiter’s moon

acute meningitis. Along with two patients, they discover they are part of a
growing puzzle involving an underground geopolitical corporation called The

technology to hijack the ship and set a course to a habitable planet located
seventeen light-years away from Earth.

Just a few seconds later, Amanda, Lina, Stryker and Ripley were led into a round chamber, considerably smaller when compared to other Firm departments. The walls had five seven-feet tall white porcelain pods attached vertically to each side, marked in black from A to J and a central mainframe system on the center. Two men sat on the desk in front of it, typing away on the panel.

“Arlo, four for immediate!” yelled the man who held Ripley, bringing her out of the shaft.

“We got the order a minute ago!” said the man on the left who typed on the panel. Amanda and Lina recognized him to be Arlo.

“B, C, D, E are a go!” said the man by his side. Arlo turned around and walked towards the group. The respective pods opened up like a coffin.

“NO!” screamed Amanda, still refusing to give in to the man’s grip. Arlo picked up a white gun from his belt and shot Ripley on the chest with a tranquilizer.

“This should make it easier.” said Arlo. He aimed at Stryker’s chest and fired. As Ripley became drowsy the guard started to drag her towards the pod, where he proceeded with unstrapping and positioning an increasingly sleepier Ripley inside.

“NO! Don’t do it, Arlo!” screamed Amanda. Lina also tried to put up a mild struggle but she was no match for the man’s size. Stryker then also was taken to the pod next to Ripley as Arlo shot Lina and Amanda in one breath. Amanda looked at the small needle in her chest as she trembled with panic and rage.

As she saw Stryker close his eyes she looked at Lina, who had seemed to have made her peace with it and looked at the floor apathetically. When she noticed Amanda was looking at her, she smiled peacefully at her and sighed. Amanda felt tears streaming down from her face as the grip the man held on her arms seemed to go numb and her balance was affected.

She breathed in and out trying to calm herself the most before fading out, and looked ahead as the man placed her in the pod and strapped her in. She then heard the entire engine start to vibrate and a cold smoke poured from little openings that filled the entire pod’s interior. Amanda felt cold as she continued to try and control her breathing and looked ahead to see the door close in. Her vision started to turn black from the exteriors, as the darkness grew into her central focus. She looked outside from a small rectangular window on the pod into the lab as the workers turned to the panel. She inhaled and exhaled one last time as the darkness reached the center of her line of vision.

Does Love Always Win is a sapphic coming of age young adult novel that
explores coming out and understanding one’s sexual orientation.

Sam “Shorty” Daniels has a plan for her senior year, but her
romantic life being a hot mess was not part of the agenda. Shorty quickly
discovers she’s not attracted to her newest boyfriend and fellow marching
band member Zack, despite her many hours of daydreaming of what it would be
like to date him. Their previous flirting had been so intense that those
feelings have to come back again, right?

When Shorty’s asked to show the snarky new girl around high school,
Shorty’s instantly intrigued by Kristy’s wit, and they bond over their love
of writing. They quickly become inseparable, and Shorty has a breakthrough
moment realizing why none of her other relationships worked out.

Just as Shorty is about to break up with Zack, her bitter ex-boyfriend
Bryan threatens to out her to the entire school and Shorty’s conservative
parents. Will Shorty be able to overcome Bryan’s ridiculous blackmail scheme
and get her dream girl?

I moved closer to her, and she wrapped her arms around me. I buried my face into her neck as she ran her hands through my hair. What was I doing? I was fairly popular at school, had a good-looking boyfriend, amazing best friend, and supportive parents. Why would I want to throw it all away to be with this girl that I had just met? What would people say if they found out? I wanted to stay in this room forever and not face the real world. Kristy pulled me back and gazed into my eyes. “It’ll be okay, I promise. I get that this is scary. How could it not be? Everything you thought about yourself has changed. But I’m here to help you figure things out and we can take this slow.” I took a deep breath. “Okay. Thanks. I think I’m having a minor freak out, but I’ll be better soon, I’m sure.” Kristy smoothed out my hair. “I’ve been wanting to ask you. Should I call you Shorty or Sam? I felt weird when we first met calling you by your nickname, but now I feel like we might be more in nickname territory.” “Honestly, I answer by both names, so whatever you feel like calling me. After last night though, you for sure have the right to call me Shorty.” Kristy nodded. “What about going to breakfast? Maybe that will take your mind o everything.” I gave a small smile and nodded.

Get unfiltered broadcasting and career advice with this biting and
provocative firsthand account of working in media.

Paul Burton has 45 years under his belt, including 10 as a regional editor
for New York City-based trade publication, Bond Buyer, and he’s
survived—and thrived—to tell the tale. From his humble
beginnings to his rise in the industry, Burton covers a lot of ground in his
stories, from dealing with people in media and finance to workers in tech
and personnel. He not only gives honest insights about financial news but
also reveals the controversial internal politics of journalism and
publishing that run rampant.

Burton’s wisdom on topics such as covering hot-button issues and
fighting against negative stereotypes proves that a career in media is just
like the news itself: eclectic, bold, and unexpected.

Take part in the drama and missteps that are a part of success in one of
the best journalistic memoirs about business on the market.

EXCERPT

“I got a writeup in my personnel file that falsely accused me of ‘repeatedly throwing objects at co-workers.’ I never threw anything at anybody. The author of the letter lectured about being a professional, but his behavior at company conferences was anything but.”

About the Author

Paul Burton

I am a retired journalist and author of two books, the most recent,
“Fiascoes and Foibles: An Unfiltered Look at Public Finance, Media,
Politics and Sports” (Elite Authors). It came out last Nov. 28. My
earlier book was “Tales from the Newsrooms: An Offbeat Look”
(Create Space), in 2011.

“Fiascoes,” a collection of anecdotal essays, reflects largely
on my coverage of U.S. public finance over the last 10 years of my career
– as a regional editor for a business publication in the shadow of
Wall Street – against the backdrop of my 45 years in media. They
capture drama, missteps and intrigue I encountered with color and biting,
irreverent humor. Plenty of attitude. Topics range from
transit/infrastructure to media and politics, and also include broadcasting
and podcast dynamics, the alarming clout of tech bureaucracies, the abject
failure of open-plan office layouts in the workplace and how my early days
in sports journalism shaped and benefited my career.

Unique to my perspective is my blue-collar background. The media employs
precious few people from working backgrounds these days. I didn’t go
to Harvard, Duke or Stanford and prance right into the New York Times or
Wall Street Journal. I was the son of a bartender who navigated a winding
road, often working for small-to-medium media outlets who punched above
their weight class, and frequently landed a rewarding knockout punch.
