Excerpt
Setting the wards is more than a walk around the perimeter, calling out to the elements. They’re keyed into the very being and require blood to take. Cutting my palm, I bring forth fire in the other hand and allow my blood to drip onto the ground.
        By Fire I ward thee:
Guard this space from all ill will,
And those who wish me harm.
Heat engulfs me, blowing back the longish strands of my hair, and drawing a line of sweat onto my forehead. I’d never had manifestations like this. My stickh was with the dead. I continue on, ignoring the newly-formed desert in my mouth.
        By Wind I ward thee:
Guard this space from all ill will,
And those who wish me harm.
Droplets of blood disappear into the earth as if the land itself is making a personal contract. The incense burning on the ground releases a thick puff of sage and cedarwood laden smoke. Maybe it is. A gust of wind threatens to knock me off my feet as its snags at my jacket with hungry hands. I stumble, swaying like a drunkard. The intensity fades to a gentle breeze, and I right myself.
        By Earth I ward thee:
Guard this space from all ill will,
And those who wish me harm.
Rumbling from deep beneath my feet shakes the earth, pitching me back like a horse unexpectedly bucking its rider. Blinking, I find myself ass over kettle. I scramble up, and ride the undulating ground like a surfer on a longboard. Feet planted, I try to flow with the vibrations, instinctively knowing participation is required.
This is my time to prove myself worthy to inherit. Old magic such as this can be nearly sentient. Everything stops abruptly. I fall forward. A mound of dirt piles up beside me. I tense, readying to defend myself from a nocturnal rodent. A tree sapling emerges.
        By water I ward thee:
Guard this space from all ill will
And those who wish me harm.
A streak of lightning slashes through the night angrily. A loud clap of thunder vibrates the ground, and the sky opens above me. Cool rain splatters against my clothes, soaking me to the skin. I finish the walk, completing the circuit. Heaviness slams into my chest. I hit the ground, dazed. My vision darkens, and I feel it. The house is built upon a ley line. The wards take their energy from the source in exchange for protection.
Storm clouds crowd in as rain continues to come in sideways. Thunder booms, performing a duet with the crackling lightning streaking across the night sky. I can taste the magic in the air. Mother’s succession of power has begun. Sitting in the mud, I tilt my head back and open my mouth, swallowing down water to quench my thirst as I try to adjust to the drastic changes my magic has undergone. Energy races inside of me, stretching and reshaping. My skin feels too tight.

A spooky mansion in the Georgia mountains with an outrageous cast of characters. Spiders, snakes, meth-heads and serial killers, oh my! Venom! ain’t your average gothic mystery, folks.
But who would expect it to be when Natalie McMasters is involved? She’s fallen madly in love with two people—her wife, Lupe, and Danny, her partner at the 3M Detective Agency. Rather than choose one of them as her life partner, she’s decided to have them both, and roped them into a relationship retreat in rural Georgia to learn how to live as a polyamorous family.
But Nattie finds more than she bargained for in the sleepy town of Greypeak. A methamphetamine operation. A snake-handling preacher. A retired FBI agent hunting a serial killer. And a charismatic psychologist who just might have his own agenda for his clients.
Nattie ultimately finds herself in the most dangerous situation she’s ever faced, which may well solve her relationship problems by costing her life. Is this really the last book in the Natalie McMasters series?

EXCERPT

Chapter 1

A wise woman once said that love is life’s true purpose. If that’s right, why does it hurt so damn much?

My name is Natalie McMasters. I’m twenty-one, short and blonde (OK, it’s bleached), formerly a pre-law student at State and a private detective trainee at my uncle’s 3M Detective Agency. And I’m totally ratchet because I’m in love with two people, and I have to give one of them up.

It’s been an unusually warm spring. It’s a fine, sunny morning in early May, and I’m driving my Z-car down a long gravel driveway through an oak and pine forest. As I enter a spacious clearing, a sprawling, modern home appears ahead, nestled in a riot of red-, white- and pink-blooming azaleas, rimmed by a border of electric blue hyacinths. I deeply inhale the heady floral aroma, as if the sweetness will somehow purge the bitterness from my soul. The upper windows of the A-frame overlooking the circular driveway are mirrored, so I can’t tell if Rebecca’s watching me.

She must be, because there’s a loud click as I approach the front door, and it pops open. The heat of summer hasn’t arrived here in the South yet, so the louvered windows on the first floor are open.

I haven’t been back to see Rebecca since I was shot in this house last year. Naturally, that makes me uncomfortable, because I’m not sure she even wants to see me. As I enter, her tinny voice comes from a hidden speaker.

“I’m in the office, Nattie. Come on up.” Her tone doesn’t tell me if she’s glad I’m here, but at least she didn’t order me out.

The house smells of hyacinths inside, too. On my right, an elevator in a glass and wrought iron tube in the center of a circular staircase gives access to the second floor. I sidestep it, taking the stairs instead. At the top, I turn into a spacious office, and Rebecca comes to greet me, her arms wide for a hug, her waist-length, coal black hair rippling and flowing behind her. She’s thirty-something, with high cheekbones and coppery skin from her native American ancestry, and her white doctor’s smock does little to hide her curves. She is absolutely one of the most gorgeous women that I’ve ever met—the sight of her always takes my breath away, like a fine work of art will do.

I can’t help but glance at the floor as I near her, but there’s no trace of bloodstains or other evidence of the tragedy that unfolded in this room last autumn. She must have hired professional cleaners. Moving to embrace her, I see a deep sadness filling her onyx eyes, and I know why it’s there. I was here when she got it.

Kristen McKay and Tyler Kincaide have a past—one that has left her with a bone-deep animosity for him. And a secret.
After seventeen years away, Tyler has returned to his hometown of Northridge, complicating Kristen’s life and dredging up conflicting emotions she’d rather not confront: the shame of that night so many years ago, coupled with the confounding and unwelcome physical attraction she has for him; the desire to keep her secret and the guilt over doing just that.
For his part, Tyler tries to renew his once-casual friendship with Kristen, but is greeted with open hostility for his efforts. He can’t understand why she feels about him the way he feels about Brussels sprouts and kale—intense loathing. What did he do that was so unforgivable? And what can he do to make her view him with less distaste than she would gum on the bottom of her shoe?
When they’re roped into working on a project together for the town’s Economic Development Council, there is no denying their chemistry. The heat between them grows into something more than sexual attraction, leaving Kristen no other alternative. She must confess her secret, even though she knows it will tear them apart. In an ironic twist, she finds she must seek forgiveness from the very man she swore never to forgive.

EXCERPT

I glanced down at the gas gauge. Dang it! The little orange arrow was pointing directly at the letter E. I stopped at the next gas station. I pulled up to the gas pump, unscrewed the gas cap, and panicked. Had I bought a diesel van or a regular van? I had specified “regular” rather than “diesel” in my Craigslist search, but I had also specified “12-passenger” not “15-passenger.” I hadn’t thought to ask the seller to clarify before I drove off. The gas cap was no help. The owner’s manual was no help. I had no idea what would happen if you put regular gas in a diesel engine, but I figured it probably wouldn’t be good. I didn’t deserve to be a van owner. I spent 20 minutes (not an exaggeration) searching through all the van documentation trying to decide what to do. Should I call the previous owner? Should I call Ford’s customer service number? Should I flip a coin and take a chance? Ultimately, I decided there was no option that allowed me to drive away with my dignity. So I called the previous owner. Straight to voicemail. Ugh! After 10 minutes or so on Google, I was 82 percent sure that the van took regular gasoline. I took my chances. I filled the thing all the way up with regular gas, prayed a little, and drove off. When I saw no smoke after 10 miles or so, I figured everything was going to work out just fine.

As you will soon see, everything did not work out just fine, but it worked out fun. It’s been quite the ride.

Excerpt – (Rated R)

Puppy was a cock worshiper if ever he knew one. Her eyes damn near glazed with
pleasure just in gazing her fill. When she reached for him, she did that sexy,
mini-orgasmic shiver thing again, and then the heat of her hand closed around his shaft.
She touched the head of him to her lips, and sighed. Soft and breathy, an expression of
pure longing that quickly evolved into something much more carnal as she took that
first taste.
His cock twitched at a touch from her tongue, a pulse of lust thumping in the
ever-tightening base as her tentative taste turned into a flick, then a slow suckling kiss at
the very head of him, before the full heavenly heat of her mouth engulfed him. He
refused to think about who taught her this. Combing his fingers into her hair, he simply
closed his eyes and enjoyed the magic as she explored him. From head to shaft to balls,
she stroked him with her hands and mouth, and her delightfully wicked tongue.
This was hard to hold still for, but he did it. Pants sagging around his thighs, he stood
like a rock—so fucking hard—while she turned her mouth into a willing sheath. She
almost got her wish too. The longer it went on, the more exuberant she became and the
closer he got to that point of no return. His hands on her head became less holding and
more restraining, and the minute twitches of his hips as she bobbed on his cock
devolved into jabbing thrusts.
He couldn’t help it. She wanted him to fuck her mouth, and he was more than happy to
let her take him to that point where he was helpless to do anything but comply. She
cupped his hips, opening her mouth, relaxing her throat, willingly choking on his cock
until her eyes teared and he had to stop. He had to, or despite his earlier edict, he’d have
cum on her tongue. The thought of watching as she then sucked him dry nearly took him
to his breaking point. He quickly pulled out of her mouth instead.
“Give me your ass,” he ordered.
