“The
Distance Between High and Low” is a Southern Gothic novel about the
consequences for two young people who set out to learn the identity of their
father. Teenaged twins, Lizzie and Peck live in the house of their eccentric,
widowed grandmother Pearl–a house of history and secrets– along with their
unstable, drug-addicted, artist mother, Lila, and Izear, a half-Cherokee Indian
devoted to Pearl who took him into her house many years before.  Often with dark humor, the story focuses on
the strivings of complex characters in the fictional town of Highlow, Alabama
from the 1960’s into the 1980’s.

In
small towns, secrets are like bodies. People kill to keep them buried.
Detective
Ollie Miller has a new partner. A man once framed for murder, who’s now haunted
by dark secrets. When the remains of five corpses are discovered, Detective
Miller realizes there is a monster among them.
The
woman he loves, Ashley Duncan hides her past. Abused by her sadistic, alcoholic
father, Ollie will need to show her a man’s touch can heal her tortured soul.
But
can he protect Cole Duncan, a traumatized child who will once again come face
to face with a killer? Because in a small town, a monster called Jericho
watches them all.
Excerpt
Ollie
was on edge. Someone had taken a big risk in killing Diana.
Then
there had been that feeling outside Vic’s house tonight. It had only lasted a
moment, but he was positive someone was watching them. Probably just more
evidence that he was being paranoid, which is why he hadn’t said anything to
Drew.
Ollie
put the water back on, and rinsed off the last of the suds.
Maybe
he should have said something. Drew clearly believed in instincts. Drew had sat
in the small, stone alcove near where his sister’s body was found, looked out
on that area of dirt and just knew something was off. He’d been right.
Of
course, maybe Drew simply had better instincts then Ollie did.
Getting
out of the shower, Ollie grabbed the large, white terry cloth towel and started
to dry off. The bathroom was small, so he stepped out into the bedroom and
towards the dresser. Wrapping the towel around his waist, he opened the top
drawer.
The
sound of glass shattering had Ollie’s heart racing. He grabbed the gun on the
dresser and rushed through his bedroom door, and down the hallway. He burst
into the living area, instantly training his gun on the source of the
disturbance.
“Police,
don’t move!” Ollie commanded.
Hands
went up. It was a woman, thin and tall, with auburn hair. The familiarity of
her curves was just setting in when she turned her head and grinned. “Don’t
shoot officer. I surrender.”
Ollie
lowered his gun. “Ashley?”
She
turned the rest of the way around, lowered her hands and folded her arms. “No
wonder you made detective. Planning on shooting me with that, stud?”
Ollie
scowled. “Of course not. The safety is back on already.”
Ashley’s
smirk turned into a grin. “I wasn’t talking about your gun.” She glanced down.
Ollie
followed her gaze and saw the towel had fallen down around his ankles. “Fuck!”
He
grabbed at the towel with one hand, trying to cover himself with the other. As
he was still holding his gun, he was afraid he was going to shoot his dick off,
but that couldn’t be much more embarrassing.
Ashley
snorted as he wrapped the towel around his waist again. “Easy there, stud. It’s
not like you have anything to be embarrassed about. Go get dressed and don’t
shoot anything important off.”
He
slinked away to the bedroom, cringing as he heard her laugh.

In
the shadow of the Great Depression, long before historical changes leading
toward LGBTQ advocacy and equality, eighteen-year-old Ruth Thompson defies her
family’s expectations to marry Duke, her long-time sweetheart. Instead, she
joins a rodeo circuit in order to earn money for college and comes of age in
the male-dominated culture of rodeo competition.
Ruth
returns home to Minnesota a prize-winning competitor and resumes her familiar
relationship with Duke. Once at college she grows increasingly restless in her
role as sorority girl with Duke as her escort for all social occasions. Her
safe existence is upended when she meets confident and free-spirited Gisela and
then further unravels when the two women fall in love.
The
lives of Ruth, Gisela, and Duke entwine while Ruth embarks on a journey of
self-discovery, full of dangerous social repercussions that takes her from
Minnesota to the Pacific Ocean of California. As WWII escalates, each of them
faces a test of their fortitude as all three must come to grips with
redemption, forgiveness, the meaning of family and how to honor their authentic
truth during this perilous time in history.
Both
heart wrenching and uplifting, The Winter Loon honors the strength and spirit
of all those who struggle with social persecution because of who they love and
how they define family whether it is their own flesh and blood kinfolk and/or
those nearest and dearest to their heart.

QUANTUM
ROOTS III
Fiction,
Light Sci-fi, Satire
Date
Published:
March 2019
 photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png
Olan
Chapman returns in this third edition of Quantum Roots, as Calvin Cannonball
Cooper, a vigilante from yesteryear who uses powder guns, throwing knives and
cannonballs to neutralize the bad guys of today’s society.
History
books fail to mention Calvin Cooper, but this defender of the weak and  helpless, went down with Jim Bowie, Davy
Crockett and William B.Travis in that 1836 slaughter we remember as The Alamo.
Acknowledged
or not, Cooper lives again each time Olan Chapman dons a cavalry outfit, found
in a New England attic overlooking the sea.
Matching
Configurations is based on a belief that any quark assembly that spins through
a series of worm holes, must format with a matching configuration triggered
from this side of the Time Wall.
This
296 page novel contains some adult material not suitable for readers under 18.

Quantum
Roots: The Vigilante Sightings
Fiction,
Satire

Federal
agents, Alexis Grumman and Jeremy Wade track down a current day vigilante,
whose fingerprints match those of a Korean War veteran. Author Kyle Keyes uses
characters from two previous novels, to promote a theory that particle energy
formats with a quantum root system, that can bypass time and space. Keyes
believes that such fiction could turn to fact as we move into the age of
quantum mechanics. Adventure fans everywhere should delight in this fast paced
action story, that brings yesterday’s gun play back to settle cyber-age
injustice. Synopsis: Jesse Joe Jacks was born sometime during the snow blizzard
of 1923. The Lower Elk County, game warden died from a lightning strike on July
23, 1959, while wearing a sheriff’s star. Olan Chapman came to life in August
of 1974 and found a computer career with a center city, electronics firm.
Chapman drinks heavy and is haunted by flashbacks of an older sister, lost to
an unsolved case of gang rape and murder. Jacks loved nature and lived to
protect wildlife. He stood tall and fought to uphold justice. Jacks was also a
crack shot with a firearm – any firearm. Chapman attends the theatre, plays
piano and at one time led a march against the National Rifle Association. Both
men have the same fingerprints, much to the chagrin of Lt General Alexis
Grumman who heads the federal department for para-normal activities. Working
with special agent, Jeremy Wade, Grumman breaks open the case when Chapman’s
fingerprints also match those of the vigilante.

Quantum
Roots II: Worm Holes
Published:
February 2017
Genre:
Fiction, Satire

In
this sequel to Quantum Roots, the meekish Olan Chapman faces danger as
vigilante Samuel Leroy McCoy, a US deputy marshal who upheld law and order in
1876, Dodge City.
The
metamorphous holds an eerie transformation, cloaked with rolling sagebrush and
horse whinnies from yesteryear, which causes DPA Director, Alexis Grumman to
rethink the validity of worm holes.
“Creation
is a worm hole,” replies Dr Norman Daly, “Atoms require hadrons to form a
nucleus, and each hadron comes through it’s own worm hole. Two quarks form the
bi-dimensional plane needed to support the hole. The remaining quark squeezes
through this hole, after which the first two quarks follow to shape the hadron
to a given genetic, configuration. The hole then closes to divide time from timeless.”
The
gunfighter is wanted for multiple killings, a consequence that keeps the
slender computer wizard on the run from authorities – and domineering wife, Ivy
Chapman.
As
in Quantum Roots, aka The Vigilante Sightings, Quantum Roots II is based on mounting
evidence that people form from recycled energy.
