Monster Mash Countdown Blitz – Day 11

Scarlett St. Clair lives in Oklahoma with her husband. She has a Master’s degree in Library Science and Information Studies and spends a lot of time researching reincarnation, unsolved murders and Greek mythology–all of which made it into her debut novel, When Stars Come Out (Oct 2018).
When Stars Come Out cover
Anora Silby can see the dead and turn spirits into gold coins, two things she would prefer to keep secret as she tries to lead a normal life at her new school. After all, she didn’t change her identity for nothing.

As it turns out, hiding her weirdness is just one of many challenges. By the end of her first day, she’s claimed the soul of a dead girl on campus and lost the coin. Turns out, the coin gives others the ability to steal souls, and when a classmate ends up dead, there’s no mistaking the murder weapon.
Navigating the loss of her Poppa, her mother’s mistrust, and Roundtable, an anonymous student gossip app threatening to expose her, are hard enough. Now she must find the person who stole her coin before more lives are lost, but that means making herself a target for the Order, an organization that governs the dead on Earth–and they want Anora and her powers for themselves.

Top Ten List:
1.     Pugs – PUG EVERYTHING!
pugs banner
I have obsession with pugs. I love them and everyone knows it, so everyone buys me pug things. I have so many pug artifacts, my desk at work is COVERED. I love them all. Here are a few gems:

(Yes, those are pugs painted on a rock, and that is also a knitted pug).

Wine + Pride and Prejudice Nights banner   2.     Wine + Pride and Prejudice Nights
My friend and I like to unwind at the end of a long week by having a glass of wine and watching our favorite Pride and Prejudice movies. Yes, we love the 1995 version and the 2005 version!
Stars banner3.     Stars
I’m from a small town in Oklahoma. When I moved to the city, I mourned the loss of star-filled skies. Nothing is as beautiful as a night sky in the middle of the country.
Books banner   4.     Books (duh)
I love books, obvs. My favorite books of all time are the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Below I showcase my collection of LotR. My husband proposed to me with the copy on the right (he had the ring hidden inside) and said, “This book changed your life once, and now it will change your life again.” *faints* The middle set was a gift for our first anniversary. The trilogy on the left was the first LotR copy I was given by my parents.
5.     Purple Hair
Purple Hair banner
I’m a little obsessed with purple hair. I’ve had almost every shade you can imagine and placed in my hair in about every way you can—all over, low lights and highlights. I’m about to do it again, too!
 Traveling banner   6.     Traveling
I love to travel. I have been to Ireland, Peru, Italy, London and Paris. Next year, we’re heading to Greece!

7.     Pretty Jewelry
Pretty Jewelry bannerI love pretty jewelry—who doesn’t, right? Here are some gems I recently acquired:

   8.     My writing space
I’ve spent a long time making my writing space cozy so I can focus! It’s one of my favorite places in the house:

9.     Coffee + Sweets
Coffee + Sweets banner
I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I love coffee + sweets!  The coffee in the left corner is some sort of sweet potato thing that tastes delicious. I was skeptical at first, but it was a great rec from the barista! The gorgeous cake on the right was made by my friend (who also joins me for Pride and Prejudice and Wine Nights) for mine and my husband’s first anniversary cause she’s the best! Those delicious macaroons are from Whole Foods and I’m obsessed.

Llamas banner  10.Llamas
I do love me some llamas. I think it started on my trip to Peru with my husband. We bought this fuzzy little llama (pictured below). He started an Instagram account @llamawithwanderlust and we take him on all our trips. It’s pretty hilarious!
Alright, those are some top 10 favorite things! Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoyed the pics!
Love,

Scarlett

Miss Eloise was a vision. Adam paused in the doorway to take stock and gather his wits.

Gone was the gaudy, provocative gown. The girl now wore a plain white nightgown that flowed to her ankles, buttoned up to the neck and tightly gathered at the wrists. She stood beside the foot of her bed, her hands folded before her and her waist-length ebony tresses loose about her shoulders and back. Her small, elegant hands were clasped at her waist and her bare toes peeked out from beneath the hem of her nightgown.

The whole effect was one of modesty, decency, and almost childlike innocence. Where downstairs in the parlour she had played the shameless harlot and gloried in that role, now she exuded purity and meekness. As he watched, she sank slowly to her knees and bowed her head. She laced her fingers together in a semblance of prayer.

“Very nice,” he breathed. Adam approached her and slowly circled the small form kneeling before him. He took a handful of her hair and lifted it, tested the weight of it before allowing the soft strands to slip from his fingers and cascade once more down her narrow back. He was uncertain which persona he preferred, the bawdy strumpet or the virginal maiden, and he had no doubt there was much more in her repertoire.

“Tell me about yourself,” he murmured.

“I was told you wished to see me, my lord. That I had displeased you in some way. Perhaps your bed was not made to your liking, or your boots were not polished properly. I… I had gone to bed, but when Mrs. Trott, the housekeeper, told me that you required my presence here in your chamber I felt I should hurry in order not to further incur your displeasure.”

Ah, the errant housemaid. Adam smiled. His work was not usually so pleasant in nature. He would enjoy this particular contract.

“Quite so. And tell me, what are you wearing under that nightgown?”

“Mrs. Trott is quite insistent that we do not wear anything beneath our night attire, sir. It is not healthy, she says.”

Adam silently blessed the fictitious Mrs. Trott.

“You are quite right regarding the reasons I summoned you here. My boots were positively dull when I came to wear them this evening, and you may see for yourself the parlous state of my bed. This just will not do. I have already had cause to warn you on these matters.”

She began to wring her hands most prettily. Eloise peeped up at him, her expression one of entreaty and supplication. “I know, my lord. I am so very sorry…”

“Sorry is not good enough.”

“I…I know, sir,” sniffled Eloise.

“You are to receive a spanking, my girl. A hard and very thorough spanking. This is necessary in order to teach you the importance of diligence and attention to detail in your work here. I shall not tolerate sloppiness such as I have seen today.”

“I’m sorry…” Eloise’s voice raised a little and her sniffles increased. The wench really was very good at this.

“I shall spank you first with my hand, then, when I consider you properly chastised, I shall finish the job off with this.” He picked up a hairbrush that had been lying upon a small dressing table. It was quite heavy, the handle and back fashioned out of bone and he knew it would deliver a solid whack when called into service.

He was gratified to see Eloise’s eyes widen a little. Despite her wealth of experience, she was far from oblivious to the discomfort he was about to mete out.

“You will remove your nightgown, then stand in the corner over there. I would like you to face the wall and lean forward a little, sufficient to present your bottom to me. Whilst you wait there for me to be ready for you, you will consider your misdemeanours and the punishment to come.”

“But, my lord. I have nothing on underneath. I would be quite naked.”

“Disobedient and lazy servants are punished when naked. You know this.”

“Yes, sir.” She pouted prettily.

“Then get to it,” he snapped. “You have until I count to five, then if you are not standing naked in the corner as I have directed you will find yourself introduced to my riding crop as well this night. Do I make myself clear?”

Monster Mash Countdown Blitz – Day 10

Monster Mash Countdown Blitz banner

Denise is a Southern girl who has lived in Louisiana all her life, and yes, she has a drawl. She has a wonderful husband and two incredible children, who not only endure her writing moods, but who also encourage her to indulge her writing passion. Besides writing romantic suspense, she enjoys traveling, reading, and cooking. Accounting is a skill she has learned to earn a little money to support her writing habit.
She wrote her first story when she was a teen, seventeen handwritten pages on school-ruled paper and an obvious rip-off of the last romance novel she had read. She’s been writing off and on ever since, and with more than a few full-length manuscripts already completed, she has no desire to slow down.
Second Sight cover

Jerilyn’s claim that she’s able to see the future both frustrates and fascinates Nick to the point he can’t get her out of his mind. Are Jerilyn’s claims of second sight a cover for her own crimes? Will Nick discover the truth before Jerilyn becomes the killer’s next victim?
