BOOK REVIEW- WATERSMEET BY RACHEL COTTERILL

watersmeet by rachel cotterill
Book Description
Publication Date: December 25, 2014
When a stranger tells her she’s a mage, Ailith is intrigued but she’s also afraid. Magic is heresy, and heresy means death under the Temple Law. Even literacy is suspect in a girl of her background, and her sister’s impending wedding only serves as a reminder that she should be focusing on her future. Then a local priest asks her to rescue his son, and she starts to wonder if her talents could be a blessing, after all.

The Lord Baron of Watersmeet, Leofwin isn’t accustomed to welcoming uninvited visitors. A commoner turning up at his gates should be no more than a minor footnote to his day, but something about Ailith catches his attention. Alchemy can be lonely work and an apprentice might be just what he needs.

As their lessons grow into shared experiments, Leofwin wonders if he might even trust her with his greatest challenge. But Ailith can’t forget why she came to the castle.

“Kelly Meding is a real storyteller and I look forward to reading more of her work.”—Patricia Briggs, New York Times Bestselling Author

Raised on a steady diet of Star Wars, Freddy Krueger and “Fear Street” novels, Kelly Meade developed a love for all things paranormal at a very young age. The stealthy adolescent theft of a tattered paperback from her grandmother’s collection of Harlequins sparked an interest in romance that has continued to this day. Writing as Kelly Meding, Meade is the author of the Dreg City urban fantasy and the MetaWars books.

HUNGER’S MATE PART  is split into 4 parts, and this is a great start to the book. In part one we get to meet Jewel Jenner and Ezra Preston. We find out that Jewel is running from her past and it has found her. Ezra meets Jewel and he cannot resist her and wants her at all costs. The characters and the story line  are well-developed. I enjoyed this book and can’t wait to see what happens. I am torn between getting the other three parts or waiting for the whole book to be released. I recommend this book to everyone, and I give it 4/5 stars.

Book 2 of the Scarlett Bernard series

For years she has used her gift to scrub crime scenes of any magical traces, helping the powerful paranormal communities of Los Angeles stay hidden. But after LAPD detective Jesse Cruz discovered Scarlett’s secret, he made a bargain with her: solve a particularly grisly murder case, and he would stay silent about the city’s unearthly underworld.

Now two dead witches are found a few days before Christmas, and Scarlett is once again strong-armed into assisting the investigation. She soon finds a connection between the murders and her own former mentor, Olivia, a null who mysteriously turned into a vampire and who harbors her own sinister agenda. Now Scarlett must revisit her painful past to find Olivia—unless the blood-drenched present claims her life first.

TRAIL OF DEAD has an interesting plot, characters, and action scenes. It is a refreshing take on the supernatural world. Scarlett Bernard is a cleaner, meaning she cleans up messes left by the supernatural world. She is a NULL, someone who has no magic or can nullify magic when they get within a certain radius of her. When Vampires, werewolves get in her radius they are human again. A Witches magic does not work around her. When her friends and family are now in danger she is on a timeline to find the one who is behind the killing of the Witches. She knows that her old mentor Olivia is somehow behind it all, but finding her is another matter.  This is such a great series to read and the characters are very likeable, that I recommend it to everyone who loves Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance. I give TRAIL OF DEAD 4/ 5 stars.
