BOOK REVIEW- RAVENSBLOOD BY SHAWNA REPPERT

ravensblood
In a life of impossible choices when sometimes death magic is the lesser of the evils, can a dark mage save the world and his own soul?
Corwyn Ravenscroft. Raven. The last heir of an ancient family of dark mages, he holds the secret to recreating the Ravensblood, a legendary magical artifact of immense power.
Cassandra Greensdowne is a Guardian. Magical law enforcement for the elected council— and Raven’s former apprentice and lover. She is trying to live down her past. And then her past comes to the door, asking for her help.
As a youth, Raven wanted to be a Guardian but was rejected because of his ancestry. In his pride and his anger, he had turned to William, the darkest and most powerful mage of their time. William wants a return to the old ways, where the most powerful mage was ruler absolute. But William would not be a True King from the fairy tales. He would reign in blood and terror and darkest magic.
Raven discovers that he does have a conscience. It’s rather inconvenient.
He becomes a spy for the council that William wants to overthrow, with Cassandra as his contact.
Cass and Raven have a plan to trap William outside his warded sanctuary. But William is one step ahead of the game, with Raven’s life, his soul, and the Ravensblood all in danger.

Ravensblood won a Gold Medal in the 2014 Global E Book Awards. The author’s first novel, The Stolen Luck, won a Silver Medal in the Global E-Book Awards and a 2014 Eppie Award.

RAVENSBLOOD is a great mix of fantasy, romance and action. The characters and story line are very well-developed. Cassandra is a guardian and is part of the light mages. Raven is a dark mage and once had Cassandra as an apprentice and lover. Now Cassandra is trying to get past what she had done with Raven in the past. With Williams rise in power of the dark mages, they must stop him. Raven comes to Cassandra wanting to leave William, for he does not have the stomach to be a dark mage anymore. Cassandra and her Aunt use Raven as a spy to try and stop Williams reign of terror. This is such a great story and by the end I was rooting for Raven. I recommend this book to everyone and I cannot wait to start reading book two. I give RAVENSBLOOD 5/5 STARS.

BRAND OF  THE PACK is a quick exciting read.  This book starts after the last book where Morgan is abducted, because of her silver wolf status. The traumatic experience left emotional scars, and Greyson tries to keep her safe from other abductions. They are to be married, but until they are other packs can challenge Greyson for Morgan. In the week leading up to their wedding Greyson has been in numerous challenges. When Morgan’s mother comes to town for the wedding they have to keep their secret from her. This sets up for some hilarious situations. The story line and characters are well-developed. I come to like the characters of Greyson, Morgan, and Marissa. I recommend this series and book to everyone. I give BRAND OF THE PACK 5/5 STARS.

URBAN FANTASY BOOK REVIEW- SPIDER’S TRAP BY JENNIFER ESTEP

spider's trap by jennifer estep

Book Description
Publication Date: July 28, 2015
The next thrilling book in Jennifer Estep’s New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling Elemental Assassin series—“an extraordinary series.…One of the most intriguing heroines in the genre” (Romantic Times Book Reviews).

Keep your friends close but your enemies within stabbing distance.

One important lesson I’ve learned in the assassination business is that to be the best you have to roll with the punches. Now that I’m queen of Ashland’s underworld—by default, not by choice—a lot more punches are being thrown my way. But I suppose that’s the price of victory for taking down some of the underworld’s top dogs. Good thing I have my Ice and Stone magic to help me survive my volatile new position. Just when I think things are finally settling down, someone tries to murder me during a hush-hush underworld meeting. But the real surprise is how strangely familiar my shadowy assailant seems to be.

My job is to maintain order among killers, crooks, and thieves, and soon I’m embroiled in a bloody game where the ability to keep secrets could be the greatest superpower of all. My enemies have all sharpened their knives and laid their traps, waiting for me to fall. But this Spider weaves her own webs of death…

AWESOME!! AWESOME!! AWESOME!! THE SPIDER’S TRAP starts off after The Spider(Gin Blanco) defeats Mab Monroe’s daughter and becomes the New Queen of the Ashland Underworld. Gin is mediating a dispute on The Delta Queen between two of the city’s crime lords, who both want the coin laundries that Lorelei owns. In true Gin style she does not like listening to these two squabble about who should own them. All she wants to do is stab them. During this shouting match, she notices something different about the guy serving the champagne. She makes him nervous and he runs. She chases him down as he jumps overboard, just as she was to follow, she is shot at by a sniper. She goes back to the bucket to check and there is a bomb inside. She yells for everyone to get of the boat, and as time gets down to the wire, she jumps overboard. I loved this book!!! There is action from the very first chapter. The characters and story line are very well-developed. I love the character of Gin Blanco and all of her friends and family. They just help the story to flow and move along. I give THE SPIDER’S TRAP 5/5 STARS. I cannot wait until the next book in this series.
