Falling for a man like Bryant Holbrook is just begging for heartbreak. Rich boys don’t look twice at waitresses from the fog, at least not until now. One smart-mouthed taunt and his turquoise eyes are all over her. That cocky, bad boy grin tempting her with the impossible.

It should have stayed a one-night stand.

*This is a standalone full-length novel with an intense, heroic Dom, BDSM, drama, suspense, and a world of corrupt men that make this fairytale darker than most. How far would you go for your happy ending?

“Beg me again, Phee.”
“Bryant…” Phee groaned, panting against the bedding, bent over his lap as he teased her mercilessly. His fingers curling down to brush against that bundle of nerves inside as his thumb pressed rhythmically over her clit. Continuing until she was gritting her teeth to hold back the flood of pleas that threatened to escape.
“Either beg me for what you want, or I’ll tie you up and make sure you don’t come all night.” Bryant’s threat made Phee’s mouth drop open, but before she could come up with something smart ass to say he slid a third finger inside her, pumping them in a vicious tease that had her shivering towards the edge of a glorious orgasm.
“Oh God… Bryant!” Phee bucked against his grip, but he refused to let her move, and so she finally gave in. Let go and let the tug of Bryant Holbrook’s whirlpool drag her down. “Please, Bryant, please fuck me, because I’m going to lose it if you don’t. Please, please—”
Bryant pushed her off his lap and onto her back, and then he was on top of her, his knees moving her thighs apart as she arched up against his chest. “You beg so well, Phee,” he purred, hips dropping between hers, and she was infuriated by the fabric separating them as he ground himself against her.
“Bryant! Please!” Phee reached down and tugged at the waist of his boxers, and he laughed against her skin as he kissed up her neck.
“So, you’re saying you want me?” Bryant grinned at her and grabbed her wrists, pinning them above her head.
“Yes! I want you, please, Bryant,” Phee begged, the whine in her voice obvious as she rolled her hips to try and get more contact, to try and get him to give in. Damn his self-control.
“All you had to do was ask.” He kissed her hard, biting her lip and devouring her mouth in a delirious rush that finally gave her a hint that he felt the same way she did. Lifting her hips, she moaned against his lips, desperate to feel him inside her. Breaking the kiss with a groan, he twisted to grab a condom from the bedside table and she immediately reached for his boxers. Bryant went still, grinning down at her. “Did I say you could move your hands, Phee?”
Whining, she returned them above her head, and it was torture to watch as he slid two fingers into his mouth. Tasting her like he had all the time in the world as the condom hung in his other hand and his cock stayed trapped behind dark cloth. Lifting her hips into the air, she was reassured by the way Bryant’s gaze burned down her body to focus between her legs. “Please, Bryant. Please…”
“You taste so good.” That cocky smile tilted his lips and he gripped himself through his boxers, stroking as he lifted the foil of the condom to his mouth and tore the edge. “Are you going to be a good girl for me?”
“Yes, I will, I swear!” All pride out the window, she clenched the bedding in her fingers so she wouldn’t move.
“Next time I’m going to tie you up just so I can watch you writhe like this.” It was a promise she hoped he’d keep, but then none of it mattered because he was pushing his boxers down. He was long, thick, and she wanted to taste him, but didn’t dare move and tempt him to drag this out any further. He rolled the condom on slowly as he leaned over her. “Spread your legs for me,” he commanded and she did.
“Bryant,” she whispered, and then he was kissing her. One of his hands enveloped her wrists, tightening to hold them in place as she moaned against his lips, his cock brushing against her in a tortuous tease. She lifted her hips, pleading in broken murmurs, before he finally thrust inside her.
It was like hitting the ocean floor, the whirlpool an endless height above her, and she arched hard off the bed. He growled his own pleasure, hand tightening the grip on her wrists as he started to move. Each thrust pushing her closer to that tenuous edge of sharp pleasure, and an endless stream of pleas slipped from her lips as he moved his mouth to her neck and trailed kisses down to her shoulder. “That’s right, beg me for it…”

It should have stayed a one-night stand.

Now, it’s too late.

Phee is pulled into a world of danger and corruption where Bryant must put everything at risk to keep her safe, or risk losing her to keep his father’s dream alive.

“Phee?” It was Bryant’s voice. It was actually Bryant’s voice. He’d really called her. She’d expected another call from the cable company trying to get her to upgrade, or a drunk dial from Regan on some new guy’s phone, but Bryant? Her mind couldn’t even wrap around it as she debated hanging up. “Um, hello? Is this Phee?”

“Uh, yeah. It’s me.” Phee took a breath, feeling confused and way too tipsy to be talking to the rich boy who’d toyed with her at lunch.

“Well, it’s encouraging to know you gave me your real number.” His rumbling laugh over the phone shook the ground beneath her, transported back to that beach in her mind where she could almost see him grinning from the waves.

“And… you called me.” Rolling her eyes, she couldn’t believe how stupid she sounded. It would be easy to blame the alcohol, or sheer shock, but it was Bryant throwing her off. Men from downtown weren’t actually supposed to call. That only happened in fairy tales, and she’d sworn those off… hadn’t she?

“I did.” The laugh made his voice an amused rumble, and it did funny things to her stomach. Like he’d released butterflies that only grew more frantic as he continued. “I guess that means I rose to your challenge. Are you going to rise to mine?” His voice was deliciously taunting. She could imagine that cocky smile curving the edges of his mouth, his chestnut hair skirting across his forehead as he pinned her with those turquoise eyes.

“And what challenge is that, Bryant?” Phee smiled, still anxious as she leaned back on the couch and took a drink of the whiskey for courage.

“The one where I asked you to dinner, and you pointedly didn’t give me an answer.” Bryant had a growling, playful edge that sent a warm shiver through her, tempting her to reply in kind.

“Ah, that challenge. I guess I haven’t answered you, have I?” Phee laughed to herself when she heard him groan over the line, feeling truly good for the first time all evening.

“No, you haven’t. Which only makes you more interesting.”

“How’s that?”

“Let’s just say I’ve never had to plead with someone to go on a date before.” Bryant’s voice was getting lower and it made her sit up straight. He was hot. That was an undeniable fact. Seeing him for a just a moment had made her imagine him naked, walking out of the ocean, glistening and wet. She wasn’t immune to his looks, or his playful, cocky charms, but she wasn’t falling for the fairytale. If he was serious, he was going to have to work for it. Incredible eyes or not.

“You don’t sound like you’re pleading, Bryant.” Phee grinned and Bryant burst into laughter on the other end of the phone.

“Oh, Phee, I don’t plead with anyone, but I’d definitely like to hear what you sound like when you beg.”

Now the confessional lines are blocks long, and the oatmeal cookie crosses are selling like hotcakes. At the 4th of July parade the mayor’s 12-year-old son survived the mock crucifixion with only a broken arm and mild head trauma. Everyone give it up for Faith, Hometown of Jesus Christ.
Someone’s plotting the town’s first murder and the mill has just been robbed of an ungodly sum. There’s a cross burning on  a motel lawn and everyone is sleeping around. Chapter 1
The trucker came down the rural road clocking a little over eighty-five and feeling damn well blessed. For the first thirty years the jobs they had come and the wives they had left. For the first thirty years he would have sworn to you that the devil had been chasing him all around. Those routes he took with a bottle of Jim Beam between his knees and a bag of cocaine under his seat. Those routes had a whore at every rest stop and a Bible in every motel. That though was eighteen month ago. That though was before the preacher’s daughter. Now he had a gig that was as steady as steady could be. Now he was hauling aluminum coffins for the good ol’ Woodlawn casket company.
Some two hours before he had broken through the night. The Sunday sunrise he took with a minister on the radio and a little while after that switched stations to confess all his sins to Johnny Cash. The small towns he passed they came and they went no longer than a three-minute song. Names you can forget but the abandoned American factories they stay with you well after those eighteen wheels have come to a stop.
The approaching hill it seemed a little out of place it looked more like the start of a rollercoaster ride. He downshifted into ninth and brought that rig to the top. From there he could see the aluminum spire of the church reflecting back the rays of God like a morning star. He was on the flat of the land again when he passed by the sign to the next town. It hadn’t been the first time someone had slammed on their brakes for a second reading and sure in the hell wouldn’t be the last.
He hopped out of the cab to walk the eight hundred feet back. His Black Cat hat he removed and ran a hand over his head to tame the few wisps of hair he had left. At that moment he wasn’t sure whether to kneel or whether to laugh. That sign he was staring at had two lines, one word above and a tagline below: “Faith, Hometown of Jesus Christ.” The town he decided to give
the benefit of the doubt and took to a knee. God he gave a few words of reverence and to Man he gave a smile for the audacity. Most runs are only remembered by the miles you leave behind but some runs you never forget.

Excerpt

She woke me up in the morning at eight saying their group was departing at ten and I should leave before anyone saw me. The Italians knew she was married to Paolo but in true Italian style would never say anything about last night, but it was probably best not to be seen together in the morning. I was getting dressed when she picked up my jacket to hand it to me and she noticed there was something heavy in the pocket.
“She said. “Oh there’s something here in the pocket.”
I had totally forgotten about it but her hand went in and brought out Eva’s watch.
She looked at me strangely. “It’s a ladies watch. Why do you have a ladies watch in your pocket?”
I tried to look nonchalant. “Oh, it’s Eva’s. She gave it to me when Göran gave her a new watch as a birthday present. I’ll give it back to her in the office on Monday.”
“But why did she give it to you?”
I stammered a little. “Well… well, I was sitting next to her when she took it off.”
I saw the disbelief growing in her face and I had a flash back to the Darlene’s gold chain incident in Naples.
“Don’t lie to me Sandy. She gave it to you because you were going to take her home and sleep with her, weren’t you?”
I shook my head. “No, no.”
“You’re lying Sandy. You were going to have her last night until I came along. How inconvenient for you, but then you had me instead. Is she better than me Sandy? How long have you been sleeping with her?”
“Alex, I did not lie to you. I’ve never had sex with her.”
She was completely furious now. “Just a month ago you promised me you would wait for me and marry me when I am free. Is that a lie too?”
“Alex please calm down.”
In answer she hurled Eva’s watch at my face, hitting me on the forehead. I caught it as it bounced off me.
This was too much and I lost my temper. “Alex I did not lie to you but my God how long do you expect me to wait for you? How long will you remain married to Paolo and expect me to stay celibate while wait for you to pop up occasionally? You tell me you don’t sleep with him and I believe you, but when I told you I have never slept with Eva you don’t believe me. If you don’t trust me then maybe we should forget the whole thing. It’s a crazy situation anyway.”
I had gone too far and instantly regretted it.
She burst into a torrent of tears. I went to her but she pushed me away and said “just go”. I put on my jacket, slipped the watch into my pocket and walked out. I could feel blood trickling down my nose and put my handkerchief over the cut in my forehead.
I stayed in my hotel room and drowsed through all of Sunday. I went over the whole scenario, over and over again. I wished I could take it all back. I shouldn’t have reacted angrily to her charges. I would have slept with Eva so she was partially right but I had not lied when I said I had never slept with her. But poor Alex had all the stress of a loveless marriage and her secret. I knew she loved me and I could understand her being upset when she saw me dancing romantically with another woman. But where does that leave us now? By dinner time I had decided that I should wait for her to contact me again. She knew I had another year at Oxford. Despite everything I was still in love with her.
On Monday morning I went straight to Göran’s office. He looked up smiling at me as I walked in. Then he saw the small elastoplast on my forehead.
“Oh no Sandy, please don’t tell me she hit you.”
I pulled Eva’s watch out of my pocket and placed it on his desk.
“She found it in my pocket and threw it at me.”
He felt its weight. “My God Sandy, what a woman. Adrian had told me about her and she was exactly as he described her. Adrian and Pete call her the movie star. Did you know that? What a beauty and she’s violent too. What a combination. You are a lucky man.”
“Well I’m not so lucky now. I think she’s finished with me this time.”
Göran looked upset. “Oh no and it’s entirely my fault because I set you up with Eva.”
I told him it was not his fault and that our relationship was very complicated but I was sure she would come back. I wasn’t really sure but I didn’t want Göran feeling guilty about it.
Except for this one incident I had a wonderful summer in Stockholm. I’d met Mr. Axel Persson, Göran’s father, and he seemed interested in me. Perhaps that would lead to other opportunities. Had cricket opened another door?
