Warning: This is a Razor’s Edge Monster Erotica Story. Expect limited
plot and character development, and lots of paranormal heat. If you’re
looking for a lengthy plot driven erotic romance, this is not it!

Cove Deville knows he can’t touch alcohol without facing dire
consequences. One drink thrown in his face from a hook-up gone
embarrassingly wrong and he’s trapped in a large cooler and tossed
into a lake. Fresh water will have to do — better than nothing. Wrong.
Discovered on the lake’s sandy shore, he’s captured by a
bewildering man. Cove’s life, or what’s left of it if he
doesn’t find salt water fast, is about to drastically change.

Kilson Arestes can not recall the last time he was held by another. The
pain of loneliness has been so great he felt as if his heart was being
shredded. Those thoughts are quickly replaced with another kind of sadness
when he finds an ocean dweller who should never be in fresh water crawling
from his manmade lake. Little does Kils know saving the animal will alter
his undead life forever.

Will these fantastic creatures’ existence be changed for better or
worse?

Everything eventually dies.

Death was coming for Cove Deville today. And it was his own damn
fault.

The evening had started with promise. From a table in the corner of a
restaurant he often frequented, Cove had watched a small but athletic
stranger climb out of his pickup truck and enter the eatery. A treat for me.
Taking a seat at the bar, the man looked around and their eyes met. There
was an immediate connection. Not a mentalist by a long shot, Cove gathered
they both desired a sexual escapade — a hard, fast fuck to end their
evening. Looked as if the man’s day had been spent fishing, while
Cove’s had been filled with… Shit, he never did anything other
than walk the beach and kick up seashells he’d probably emptied
himself before they drifted on shore and got smushed into the sand by
beachgoers and volleyball players.

Cove was a real man-whore who preferred men who were up in age. That day,
though, he’d craved companionship. He decided he could forego a
handsome older gentleman for a young one with a nice ass just this once. He
shamelessly flirted with the bastard until both decided to leave together.
Cove never took men home, and he’d learned not to be finicky about
where his hookups took place. After driving uphill along a winding dirt road
that appeared not to be used much, they’d ended up in the back of his
hookup’s pickup parked in a wooded area a mile or more from a steep,
craggy shoreline.

Physical release would usually be followed by Cove’s return to the
beach where, after dark, he’d undress and hide his clothing behind a
boulder. Wading into the warm ocean water, Cove would dive out of sight. An
hour or two later, rejuvenated, he’d surface, redress, and return to
his apartment in Malibu.

Alone.

That evening, though, Cove had gotten stupid. He allowed an argument to
develop over the fact that Cove did not want to be screwed. He yearned to
take the younger guy. Who knew his pretty little ass was a top? While it was
not his favorite way of fucking, Cove had bottomed a handful of times in his
life. But, damn, the man he’d picked up had such a pleasing round ass
and Cove had spent nearly an hour imagining plundering said ass. Taking what
he wanted. His selfishness had bitten Cove in the behind by way of a beer
being tossed in his face.

Unfortunately, alcohol in any form or potency was deadly.

Not. A. Single. Drop.

When the fucker left to take a piss, Cove had attempted to ease the
discomfort caused by the beer. He sucked the ice from around the fish in the
cooler stretching the width of the truck bed. Eventually losing control, he
shifted and fell all the way in. Thanked God he was able to regulate his
size.

The son of a bitch hadn’t even looked for Cove when he got back.
Cursing like a sailor when he looked in the cooler, he slammed the lid,
jumped in the cab of the pickup and drove like a bat out of hell for what
felt like miles down a bumpy dirt road. Skidding to a stop, the bastard
removed the cooler and dumped the contents, including his day’s catch,
into a small lake.

Fresh water! It would help flush the alcohol from Cove’s skin, but
remaining in this pond for too long was still a death sentence. Robbed of
the strength needed to shift, Cove knew his situation grew more dire as the
sun rose, its deadly light blazing into the sky. He heard someone approach
from the wooded area and cross the small strip of beach surrounding the
lake. The figure looked like a man. When necessary, Cove could borrow from
his octopod’s elevated sense of smell, but not this time. His animal
was as stymied as Cove. Snuffling the air from his position, Cove grappled
with discerning what stood glaring at him. He only knew the vision before
him smelled fabulous. Fresh, clean, and… not human. Definitely not
the young man from last night.

Reed Barton had last minute jitters about going to the bathhouse. The men
might be old and creepy. His visit might get back to his family. The list
went on, but they were just excuses, soon cast aside in favor of discovering
what he’d been missing.

Nineteen, almost twenty, and still a virgin. He had little experience with
sex. Educated at authoritarian male boarding schools, there wasn’t
much time for fooling around. Lessons started early and finished late, and
afterwards the boys were kept busy with homework, sports, and dinner until
bedtime. Still, he’d witnessed a few incidents. He’d seen one
boy sucking another’s penis in the bathroom. At the time, Reed had
been appalled, but titillated as well. He pictured himself on his knees,
forced to suck another boy’s cock, and longed for the reality, but no
opportunity presented itself.

In college, Reed felt the inexplicable draw of chemistry, but only toward
other men. To his family he presented a picture of heterosexual
“normalcy” but in fact, he took to visiting a bar where gay men
hung out. He engaged in several hurried blowjobs in the bathroom, but
nothing more. One of his nameless encounters told him about the bathhouse.
Bathhouses had once been a rite of passage for gay men, but many had closed
through the years. Somehow, this one had survived and Reed was determined to
take advantage of whatever it had to offer.

The taxi deposited Reed in a downtown Frisco area known for muggings. Many
of the buildings were abandoned and there were no signs or addresses.
Confused, Reed questioned the driver. The man pointed down an alley and held
out his hand for the fare.

A few working streetlights cast eerie shadows as Reed entered the back
street. He felt uneasy, but the sense of danger excited him as well.
He’d always been tempted by the forbidden.

A sudden downpour pelted Reed with stinging drops. He picked up his pace,
ignoring the beer cans and fast food containers underfoot, and spotted a
heavy wooden door with a small sign affixed to it that read Rock Hard Gym.
Relieved, Reed pushed the door open and entered a small foyer.

A young man sat behind a window. He scrutinized Reed carefully before
selling him a membership. “Do you want a locker or a private
room?”

“A locker. I don’t know how long I’ll stay.”

“Fifteen for the membership. Five for the locker.”

Reed exchanged a twenty-dollar bill for an ID card, a white towel and a
plastic wristband with a locker key.

“There are condoms and lube in the locker room.” The clerk
buzzed Reed through another door.

The heady scent of sex intoxicated him. He didn’t care that the
floors were old and slippery with water and body fluids. The lockers were
rusty and the walls badly in need of paint, but Reed couldn’t see past
the naked male bodies.

Men stood, sat, and lingered in stages of undress, manspreading on changing
benches, tiny towels intentionally parted. Reed found it hard to look away
from the smorgasbord of flesh so openly exposed.

While searching for his locker, he became aware of the lingering looks he
attracted, but none of the men appealed to Reed, not even in the dim
lighting. He wanted to explore and he made quick work of undressing.

Wrapping the towel around his hips, Reed left the locker room. There was a
gym, small and ill equipped, but a gym nonetheless. Reed bypassed it.
Straight ahead he encountered an area where men of all ages and sizes, naked
except for their towels, stood around and watched gay porn. He watched the
film for a few minutes, then he moved on, entering a series of corridors
where men prowled the hallways looking for acceptable partners.

He passed door after door, some closed, many open. Grunts echoed from the
shadows. Reed caught glimpses of men grinding and thrusting. Moans filled
his ears. Hushed words, frightening and thrilling. Blood rushed to
Reed’s dick. It was electrifying to be surrounded by so much
sex.

Reed stepped around men who didn’t care about getting a room. Heart
pounding, he watched them giving blowjobs or having anal sex in the hall. A
few invited him to join in, but he wasn’t ready — yet.

Will

Once upon a time, Will had sent wishes to the full moon with his howls, but
what had come true for him were the slick slaps of skin against skin,
stinking breath against his face, the taste of his own blood and other,
unspeakable things. Will, instead of meeting a prince under the full moon,
had been sold to beasts.

Will carefully turned away from the large form next to him in the bed.
Everything seemed so loud in the darkness, the other man’s deep
breathing, Will’s own, panicked heartbeat which had not slowed while
he had waited for the small hours of the morning, refusing sleep. Will
moved, inch by inch, away from the other man. Will refused to think what the
other man — Ed — would do if he found Will sneaking out. What Ed had done
was already more than Will wanted to think about.

Will had considered packing a small bag, but that would have been too
dangerous. All he had dared was leave clothes under the bed, in such a way
it looked incidental, forgotten laundry.

The floor was cold against Will’s naked feet. Carefully, he stood. He
could say he’d just wanted to go to the bathroom if Ed woke now, but
Ed was still sleeping, and so Will got his clothes, slowly pulling them up
and onto his arms. He could not make too much noise. He had to get this
right.

Will didn’t dare put the clothes on in the bedroom — loup-garou
hearing was sensitive. He walked through the dark house and to the kitchen,
grabbing his shoes on the way. There were shards of a glass on the floor. Ed
had thrown it in fury when Will had been too slow in getting Ed his beer.
Will walked around the broken thing and quickly cleaned himself with a wipe.
He gave one last look to the dirty dishes in the sink, then pulled on his
clothes, more concerned with doing it as quietly as he could than about
doing it neatly.

Before he turned the knob, he listened to the house, but it was quiet. Ed
was still sleeping, and so was his pack of three, all of them loup-garous,
all of them vicious. They might still hear the door, but if Will was ever
going to run, then this was it.

He opened the door and crossed the threshold. Now, if they found him, they
would know without a doubt that he had tried to run, and they would punish
him.

Will closed the door as carefully as he could, but the mechanism made a
small sound. Behind the house, the alley was dirty. Trash bags rustled in
the wind, soda cans rusted and collected dirt. Will had to watch where he
stepped so he didn’t make any more noise. His heart was thundering in
his chest.

Out on the street, Will quickly broke into a run. He knew he had to put as
much distance between himself and them, because they could shift and just
hunt him down, and he couldn’t without the moon being full.

Winchester Boulevard, on foot, was quite a walk. It took Will an hour, and
he ran most of the time, so when he finally got there, he was sweaty from
running and trembling with the cold whenever he slowed down to catch his
breath. The house he wanted had a large planter by the front door with a red
and white plastic windmill in it. Ella had said the windmill would be there.
It was such a silly thing, and there wasn’t even any wind to move its
spokes, but Will nearly broke out in sobs with relief.

Will was scared to knock, but at this point, it was this or wait for Ed and
his pack to hunt him down. And Will knew they wouldn’t just kill him.
If it had been that — if he’d known that would have been the worst
he’d have to fear — he might have given up at any point over the past
four years, might have just accepted death. Everything else the loup-garous
would enjoy doing to him — that was what Will feared.

He was huffing when he stood in front of the door, but he didn’t
hesitate to knock.

Will looked over his shoulder as he waited to be let in. This neighborhood
was one of the nicer ones for New Elvenswood. The whole city tended to be
largely clean and touristy, even if Will had never been allowed to see all
that much of the place. The dilapidated house Ed and his pack had rented was
the exception more than the rule as far as Will could tell.

Across the street, there was a light on in an upstairs room. Will imagined
whoever was up was awake at this hour because of their own choosing. He
imagined they were working late or maybe just reading. Just living their
life. Will hadn’t lived in such a long time. All he’d been doing
since he’d met Ed had been surviving.

The door opened, and Will flinched.

“Yes?” the vampire asked.

Will had known it would be a vampire, but still. This one, his sheer
presence absolutely spoke to Will’s wolf nature, and the
vampire’s demeanor made Will want to show his belly and submit. He was
stunning to behold too, but in a sharp way: almost white-blond hair, icy
eyes that had a hard darkness to them, a thin mouth set in a pale
face.

With a last shallow breath, Will forced the words he’d prepared in
his head out of his mouth. “Ella said you can help people in trouble.
I… there’s a pack of loup-garous, and I need to get away from
them. I can’t pay you, but I’ll do what you want. I’ll
work for you.”

Will’s voice nearly gave out on the last part, because he started
shaking violently. It occurred to Will that the vampire looked like a
Viking, and his cold eyes were growing only more glacial in their regard.
Will doubted the man had laughed for more than a minute in the last hundred
years. And he wore nice clothes, really nice clothes. Will knew the vampire
was a lawyer, but he felt silly now for asking for help. He expected the
vampire to tell him to go and fuck off, just with nicer words.

“Come inside,” the vampire said instead and opened the door
wider.

EXCERPTS: Scardust by Suzanne van Rooyen

I shake off the remnants of the dream as I tug on a clean t-shirt that Rosie must’ve forgotten in the dryer. It’s shrunk and molds to my body. I hated playing football, but I don’t mind what it do to my body, giving me arms and abs, and a decent amount of strength I’ve managed to maintain with a regimen of push-ups and sit-ups. I consider changing into something my size, but I liked the way Crow looked at me. Maybe he’ll look at me like that again.

I head out back to the roadkill cemetery sprawled beneath a pair of mesquites. For once, Bear hasn’t dug up the fresh body, leaving my armadillo to rot in peace. It’ll take at least a month for the worms to strip the flesh off the bones. The coyote remains I got back in spring are almost ready to be boiled and bleached. They’ll make a fine set of chimes.

Bear lopes up, tail wagging and tongue lolling. Crow follows. He’s sprayed on a new black t-shirt, and it shows off his biceps as well as pale tattoos. They’re like creeper winding from shoulders to wrists, with what I think might be roses dotted between wrist and elbow.

It’s not a tattoo. They’re scars.

“You’re up early.” Giving Bear a pat, I reach for the hose and start soaking the graves.

“Couldn’t sleep.” Crow squints up at the trees that don’t provide much shade. “Why do you water the corpses?” He crouches down and steals sideways glances at me. I’m glad I stuck with this shirt.

“Maybe they’ll sprout roots, and grow into bone trees. Maybe I’ll turn this whole stretch into a skeleton orchard.”

“A roadkill garden.” He grins, and, as I continue to wet the ground, I’m painfully aware of our arms less than an inch away from touching. He smells good too. Beneath the layer of cheap motel soap and chemical cotton, he smells of something not from Dead Rock, of something the desert hasn’t sandblasted and the sun hasn’t fried to a crisp.

“Would be kinda neat, right?”

“Or macabre.” Crow drags a finger through the mud and hair falls into his face. Damn, he’s fine, and probably straighter than a pole up a nun’s butt in church.

“Doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be beautiful.”
