Rebecca clenched her fists, her nails biting into her skin. She narrowed her eyes out the car window into the bright blue sky as exit signs flew by. Could she find the sweet spot on the window where one punch would shatter it? She’d seen it on Oprah and suddenly that useless information filled her every thought. The world had been so cruel—taking away the man she loved and leaving her with two daughters to raise alone. Ever-present magma bubbled under the calm demeanor she presented to the world.
Rebecca snorted, folded her arms into her chest and curled herself into a tight ball to hug the door. Her mother pushed her into this car, and she would have to pull her out.
When the car passed under the sign for the airport, Rebecca blinked away a tear, shook her head and sighed.
Her mother stopped the car at the Departures curb and reached out to take Rebecca’s arm. A sad smile tugged at her lips. “Are you sure you want to go?”
“Yes, Mom.” Rebecca turned to her mother and rolled her eyes like a spiteful teenager. “We’ve been over this before. It’s time I start moving on, and going to Rome is the first step.”
Her mother’s wrinkled hand squeezed her arm tighter. “It will do you good to get away. You’ve been looking forward to this trip for your whole life. You put pictures of Italy on the walls of your bedroom. You begged me to take you.”
Rebecca pulled her arm from her mother’s grasp and reached for the door handle. “It’s just so hard to accept that I am going alone. I was never supposed to be going alone.”
Her mother latched her hands onto the doorframe and pulled her aging body out of the car. She walked around the front and stood next to the passenger door. Rebecca remained motionless. Her throat was raw and her body vacant. How did I get here? She belonged at home with her husband, tangled in their bedsheets, listening to the girls making breakfast downstairs.
After a few moments, Rebecca unlatched the seatbelt, planted her feet on the pavement and drove her heels into the ground. As she rose, her mother’s flowing white hair filled Rebecca’s field of vision. Her mother’s hands gripped Rebecca’s shoulders. “Jack would have wanted you to go.” She stared Rebecca in the eyes.
Rebecca glared back with pursed lips. Her mother couldn’t know what Jack wanted her to do. She wasn’t sure of it herself and she’d been married to him for fifteen years.
Her mother pulled her into a hug—but not the way she used to hug her. The hugs had once filled her with love and warmth, but now she hugged her the same way everyone else did—like she was glass. Like, if they hugged her too hard, she might break. Since suddenly losing Jack three years ago, nothing felt the same. Hugs felt distant. Colors faded…

“I’m Adam Cameron. I was there when you wrecked your car last night, and I brought you into the hospital. I wanted to come by and see how you were doing.”
Her eyes didn’t blink, and she didn’t move.
“Do you remember anything?”
“Not much.” She peeked at him from under her lashes then her eyes widened, and she gasped. “But I remember you. You’re one of them.” She pulled the sheet up to her eyes and peered out at him. “No, that can’t be right, because there aren’t any of them are there?”
The nurse had told him the diagnosis was a concussion, but this sounded more like full on, raging paranoia.
For the first time Adam really looked at her. There were dark smudges under her coffee brown eyes. Even her olive skin was pale. A large purple lump stood out on her forehead, partly hidden behind her glossy, black bangs.
“Wait, why were you there?” Rose’s voice was a hoarse whisper. She lowered the sheet an inch.
“My rental car broke down, and I was stranded on the side of the road. I couldn’t get any cell reception to call a tow truck. I tried to flag you down to see if I could get a ride.”
Incomprehension faded from her eyes as understanding moved in. “It was just you.” Rose released a sigh as understanding dawned on her face. “I remember now, and it was just you.”
“Yes, I . . .”
A blush warmed her face as she cut him off with a slight wave of her hand. “You stepped out into the road and waved your arms. You were dressed in black.”
“Yeah, that was me,” he said, his attention drawn to her pretty pink cheeks.
“And?”
His eyes snapped up to meet hers. “I thought you’d see me sooner. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean for you to get hurt.”
“You scared the bejeezus out of me. I don’t know when I’ve ever been so petrified. What an idiot.”
“Hey, I said I was sorry,” Adam took a step back and reminded himself she was hurt. People in pain sometimes said things they didn’t mean. Before he could apologize again, she spoke.
“I’m not calling you an idiot. Although one of the first things we learned in kindergarten was to wear light colors after dark.” She paused for a minute, closed her eyes and massaged her temples with her fingertips.
“I’m calling myself an idiot for believing the crazies I talk to all night. I must have hit my head pretty hard, because when I came to, I thought you were an alien. Wow, every awful thing I’ve heard on my show came rushing back to me.” She raised her eyes to meet his as she dropped her hands to her lap. “Like I said, what an idiot.”
“What show?” he asked.
“I’m Radio Rose. I host a late night talk show. Most of my programs are on alien abductions.”

“So why do I feel this way?” Her eyelids fluttered as her gaze settled on his face.
“You don’t want it?” He dropped his hands, crossed his trembling arms over his chest. God, what was he doing? His hunger had never gotten the best of him.
She moved, slow and cautious, sweeping her fingertips across his clenched jaw. “I shouldn’t.”
He shook his head and caught her hand, bringing it to his mouth, pressing a kiss to her knuckles. When he exhaled against her delicate skin, she shivered and keened his name.
“I’m so cold.” She shivered again and pulled her hand free to rub her arms. “Cold to the bone.”
The sweetest hint of female arousal clung to the air, teasing his senses. Inside, he rioted. His features shifted, stinging as the bones aligned into his predatory state. He fought against his inborn nature while the line between humanity and the animalistic creature in his soul vanished.
He wanted her. Craved her.
When his eyes turned, his field of vision expanding, he saw her heat signals, watched the minute changes of her pulse. She swallowed reflexively, as if nervous. Her lips parted, and little breaths tore from her chest. If he didn’t take her in his arms and touch her, warm her, taste her, he was going to lose his freaking mind.
He lifted his arms, hands up and forced himself to speak, “Let me help you then.”
She had ten seconds to march out of there and put distance between them. It was all he could manage. If she stood there any longer, he’d shove his humanity into a dark corner of his soul, muzzle the bastard and take what he wanted.
Five seconds.
Three.
She looked past his shoulder and shook her head.
One.
“Please.” When she reached for him, he roared and pushed her back against the wall. His mouth crashed onto hers, tongue spearing into her mouth. He kissed her with wild abandon, pressing her to open further, to surrender to his invasion.
Her tongue met his, dueled and touched. His thoughts splintered. Desire rammed into him, and he caught both sides of her face, angling her head to nibble on her lips.
Insistent hands traveled up his chest, shaping his muscles. She skated her fingers over his pecs and higher still to his shoulder. When her palm curved at the nape of his neck and tugged, he closed his eyes and let her pull him down to her throat.
He was lost, utterly and completely gone. With one fang pressed against the warm flesh, he pushed until it gave but withdrew immediately. He waited for the blood to drip from the puncture and followed the stream across the ridge of her collarbone and under the loose collar of her blouse. A little pool of her blood coalesced in the valley of her breasts just waiting for him to savor each heated droplet.
When she pulled the blouse down, exposing her creamy skin and the lacy bra, heat surged low between his legs. A pounding throb drew the skin tight.
“Drink,” she commanded in a rough pitch.

He was determined to protect her, but will holding back the secrets of their pasts jeopardize their future and her safety?
Hope Wallace left Atlanta after being betrayed by her family and friends in the worst way. Now, running a homeless shelter in downtown Miami, she was finally doing what she wanted with her life and working at putting the past behind her. The only thing marring her happiness was the constant desire to explore the BDSM lifestyle her new friends enjoyed so much. She had tried that once, and it led to disaster and losing everything, but the urges kept pulling at her until she finally succumbed and braved going to a club.
Miles Cavenaugh fell for Hope the minute he saw her bruised face and determination to protect a friend and resident at her shelter. His violent childhood kept him from forming relationships, his fear of losing his temper if he came across someone harming an innocent woman or child made him anti-social and preferring to stick with his close friends for companionship. But when he hears Hope is at a local BDSM club while there is a serial abuser of submissives making the rounds in Florida, he rushes to ensure she stays safe.
Unable to continue keeping each other at arm’s length, Miles and Hope agree to a short-term affair where he’ll introduce her to the lifestyle she craved until she got her interest out of her system. But an unknown person is determined that Hope not find the happiness that has eluded her for so long and both Miles and her may have waited too long to come clean with each other about their pasts.

Book Excerpt

With the wall at her back, Hope Wallace tried to tamp down her fear while refusing to back down from the aggressive crowding by this irate ex-boyfriend of a shelter guest. His belligerence wasn’t anything she hadn’t been subjected to before, but her heart never failed to lodge in her throat when she stood face to face with a large, angry man intent on causing trouble, and her harm.
“Back off, Davidson, before I have you arrested for violating your restraining order,” she demanded, wishing her voice hadn’t emerged as a trembling whisper instead of the controlled strength she’d been striving for. Traci, her receptionist, already called the cops, who were always quick to respond to a 911 from the shelter.
Davidson got in her face and snapped, “You and what army, bitch?”
“No army, just me. Back off, like the lady said.”
Hope saw Miles’ hand clamp down on Davidson’s shoulder before she noticed his presence or heard his deep voice, the one that never failed to send a shiver of awareness dancing down her spine. Even in the midst of a nasty scene, her body responded to his black eyes drilling her with an intent, probing look that worried her on several levels.
Davidson spun around, whether with help from Miles’ grip or all on his own, she couldn’t tell. “Mind your own fucking business,” he sneered. “This is between me and my old lady.”
“Not anymore.” Sidling around Davidson, Hope glared at Miles before placing herself between him and her unwelcome guest. She couldn’t afford any more trouble. Ignoring the low growl rumbling from Miles’ throat, and the way her nipples pulsed in response, she placed her hands on her hips. Sirens grew louder as a police car pulled up out front, lending her even more bravado to get in this man’s face, just to see how he liked it. “She’s done with you. Get used to it and stay away from her, and my place.”
Two cops rushed inside and wasted no time hauling him off in handcuffs. Hope breathed a sigh of relief, her heart rate slowing down until she faced Miles’ wrath. Funny how his anger induced a whole different response than the instant fear Davidson’s had. The threat he posed wasn’t one of physical harm, but she had other reasons for keeping her distance from him.

Managing Blake Teaser

Excerpt

Wolf whistles and cat calls filled the room. Caris began to laugh and lost herself in the moment. She’d never crashed any party, let alone a bachelor party. She scanned the pub to make sure there weren’t any strippers hiding among the packed room of the best-looking group of men she’d ever seen in person. But it was the man standing in the entryway who captured her immediate attention.
The manager of the Outlaws, Blake Anderson, was looking her up and down. His ocean-blue gaze captured hers. He’d caught her looking, which she didn’t have a problem with. Any woman she knew who enjoyed a finely sculpted man would have done the same thing. She appreciated his wide shoulders and long legs encased in jeans that fit him in all the right places. His dark hair brushed the collar of his white button-down shirt. His sleeves were rolled up, exposing his sun-kissed skin and muscled forearms.
She was a sucker for a man with well-defined shoulders and arms. And a muscled back. But she had no way of knowing if his back matched his front; she could only guess and dream. Because the dream she had of him the last time she saw him came rushing back and warmed her cheeks. They may have never spoken more than polite hellos, but that didn’t mean she hadn’t thought about him a time or two. Well, maybe more than that, but it was a fantasy she’d never thought would happen. She never thought their paths would cross again. Tonight, it had. He was looking at her similar to how he did in her dreams.
But she didn’t appreciate the knowing grin on his face. She gave herself a shake and broke eye contact. She was not here to hook up. Not with Blake or anyone else Lara had plans to put in her path. She had enough drama going on in her life, thank you very much. She just wanted to have another drink and have a good time with her friends. And maybe window shop the group of well put together baseball players who dominated the room.
Maverick and Kelsey had ended their epic kiss, and she was helping him remove the cornucopia of bras he’d acquired. She found Noel at a table sipping a drink while Lara and Luke seemed to be in deep discussion. Their wedding was next month, but at the moment neither one was putting off the vibes Kelsey and Mav were transmitting. Caris walked over to the table and sat down.
“So, what’s everyone drinking?”
Noel waved her off and mouthed, ‘not good’. Caris looked back at the arguing couple and cringed. Dammit. She hated seeing people she cared about argue. It brought back too many memories of her own parents and the constant turmoil they seemed to thrive on.
A glass of wine appeared in front of her on the table. It was attached to the arm she had just been ogling moments ago. Without asking, Blake pulled out a chair, sat and ignored her.
