Blood of the Earth (A Soulwood Novel) is a great start to a new series! This is a spin-off of the Jane Yellowrock series. I have not read a book by Faith Hunter that I did not like. I don’t think she could write a bad novel! Rick LaFleur shows up on Nell’s doorstep per Jane’s referral.   His clues to the where about of the Nashville Blood Master. It has led him to the cult that Nell had once belonged to not far from her property that she lives at. I love the characters in this book, and seeing Lafleur and the others that are with him.  When I started this book, I could not put it down. If you have not enjoyed a Faith Hunter book, I urge you to go out and get your copy today. You will not be disappointed. I give BLOOD OF THE EARTH 5/5 STARS.

MIDNIGHT MARKED is an action packed masterpiece! I love Chloe Neill’s writing style. I haven’t read any of her books in this series until November of last year. I read the first book and I was hooked. I started to binge read the whole series up to the last booked published. At least I only had a couple of months to wait for the chance to read MIDNIGHT MARKED. I cannot get enough of Merit and Ethan and the Cadogan House gang. This book starts out with Ethan and a few others taking Merit to a night Cubs game. She is so excited about going to the game that she wants to get there in time so she won’t miss the free Cubs flashlight that they are giving away. As usual, things don’t go as planned. Merit feels someone using magic and has to find where it originated. When she gets there she finds the body of a dead shifter. This starts a mad dash around the city to find out who is wielding magic in the city, and why are they going after shifters. This case puts a strain on the Shifter and Vampire relations. This is such a great story and series, and I recommend it to everyone. I cannot wait to see what else is in store for Merit and Ethan. I give MIDNIGHT MARKED 5/5 stars.

REVIEW – CITY OF LIGHTS BY KERI ARTHUR

city of lights cover
The first in an all-new futuristic fantasy series from Keri Arthur—the New York Times bestselling author of the Souls of Fire novels.

When the bombs that stopped the species war tore holes in the veil between this world and the next, they allowed entry to the Others—demons, wraiths, and death spirits who turned the shadows into their hunting grounds. Now, a hundred years later, humans and shifters alike live in artificially lit cities designed to keep the darkness at bay….

As a déchet—a breed of humanoid super-soldiers almost eradicated by the war—Tiger has spent her life in hiding. But when she risks her life to save a little girl on the outskirts of Central City, she discovers that the child is one of many abducted in broad daylight by a wraith-like being—an impossibility with dangerous implications for everyone on earth.

Because if the light is no longer enough to protect them, nowhere is safe…

CITY OF LIGHTS is an action packed wonder. Tiger was bred to be a type of humanoid soldier to fight the shifters and vampires in the war 130 years ago. She is the  last of her kind. At least she thinks she is. When she is asked to help find the  missing children, she just cannot say No. In trying to find the children, she finds out that she is not the only Déchet out there. She is able to see and talk to the dead, and they help her to solve this mystery. There is more going on than missing children. This is such a good book, and I really like Tiger. I recommend this book to everyone. I give CITY OF LIGHT 5/5 STARS.

SOME GIRLS BITE(Chicagoland Vampires Book 1) BY CHLOE NEILL

The First Chicagoland Vampires Novel

They killed me. They healed me. They changed me.

Sure, the life of a graduate student wasn’t exactly glamorous, but I was doing fine until Chicago’s vampires announced their existence to the world. When a rogue vampire attacked me, I was lucky he only got a sip. Another bloodsucker scared him off and decided the best way to save my life was to make me the walking undead.

Now I’ve traded sweating over my thesis for learning to fit in at a Hyde Park mansion full of vamps loyal to Ethan “Lord o’ the Manor” Sullivan. Of course, as a tall, green-eyed,
four-hundred-year-old vampire, he has centuries’ worth of charm, but unfortunately he expects my gratitude—and servitude. Right…

But someone’s out to get me. Is it the rogue vampire who bit me? A vamp from a rival House? An angry mob bearing torches?

My initiation into Chicago’s nightlife may be the first skirmish in a war—and there will be blood.

BOOK DESCRIPTION COURTESY OF AMAZON

SOME GIRLS BITE is a roller coaster of a ride. The characters and story line is well-developed.  I love the character of Merit. She is a grad student walking on campus at night, when she is bitten by a vampire. During the bite she has her throat ripped out. Ethan, the master of Cadogan house, scare off the rogue vamp who attacked Merit. Now the way to save her life is to change her into a vampire. She is later returned home after the change. Merit has to learn to be a vampire. This means that she has to learn to control her now heightened senses, her strength.   She helps Ethan to try to find the rogue who has attacked and killed other women .

When she is inducted into the Cadogan House, she is made the Sentinel of the house. Her job now is to protect the house from any and all threats. She is later faced with a complication of the change. During the change she was given drugs to make the change easier for her. This later causes her to attack Ethan, because of blood lust. The drugs interfered in the change and  caused her to not go through the complete change. Merit is a very strong vampire. She shows a very strong physce, which makes her not susceptible to glamor.  This is a great book and made me want more of Merit and Ethan. I ended up reading four more books, one after another. I love this book and series. I give SOME GIRLS BITE 5/5 STARS.

HALFWAY TO THE GRAVE is a great start to a series. Catherine “Cat” Crawfield is half vampire, half human. When her mother was younger, she was raped by a “new” vampire. One who was bitten within 2 weeks. Out of this rape Cat was conceived, and born five months later. Now she is killing vampires to make up for who she is. Her mother told her that all vampires are evil and must die. When she meets Bones one night, she finds out not all of them are evil. Now she is saved by Bones one night when a vampire gets the upper hand, after someone drugs her drink. They join forces and go after the baddest of the bad vampires, and life is never dull. Bones and Cat grow closer together and her relationship to her mom is on shaky ground. I loved this book! The characters and story line were very well-developed. I recommend this book to everyone, and I give HALFWAY TO THE GRAVE 5/5 STARS.
