Radio Rose knows Martians aren’t real.
But as a DJ on a late night talk show about Aliens, she’d never admit to being a non-believer. Talking to crazies all night isn’t the perfect job for most people, but she’s happy with her solitary life. Until a middle of the night car crash and a blow to the head has her mistaking a reclusive rodeo cowboy for a real life extra-terrestrial.
Adam Cameron escaped from his narcissistic grandfather and Tullyville, Colorado the day he turned 18. Now, ten years later, he’s forced to return — dragged into a battle over his grandfather’s fortune and fighting for the future of a town he wanted to forget.
Rose and Adam are both lousy at relationships, but when his problems are too big to handle on his own, she feels compelled to help. Now in a town filled with new found friends, Rose has to decide if she’s willing to trust the loner.
“The opening chapter of this book had me laughing out loud. From there, things just got better! This was one of those books with loveable characters and a connection that makes you feel like you are right there living life with them”
– Karen @ TingsMom
“Characters Make the Story!!! Well written, good character development, and wonderful ending.”

Excerpt

“I’m Adam Cameron. I was there when you wrecked your car last night, and I brought you into the hospital. I wanted to come by and see how you were doing.”
Her eyes didn’t blink, and she didn’t move.
“Do you remember anything?”
“Not much.” She peeked at him from under her lashes then her eyes widened, and she gasped. “But I remember you. You’re one of them.” She pulled the sheet up to her eyes and peered out at him. “No, that can’t be right, because there aren’t any of them are there?”
The nurse had told him the diagnosis was a concussion, but this sounded more like full on, raging paranoia.
For the first time Adam really looked at her. There were dark smudges under her coffee brown eyes. Even her olive skin was pale. A large purple lump stood out on her forehead, partly hidden behind her glossy, black bangs.
“Wait, why were you there?” Rose’s voice was a hoarse whisper. She lowered the sheet an inch.
“My rental car broke down, and I was stranded on the side of the road. I couldn’t get any cell reception to call a tow truck. I tried to flag you down to see if I could get a ride.”
Incomprehension faded from her eyes as understanding moved in. “It was just you.” Rose released a sigh as understanding dawned on her face. “I remember now, and it was just you.”
“Yes, I . . .”
A blush warmed her face as she cut him off with a slight wave of her hand. “You stepped out into the road and waved your arms. You were dressed in black.”
“Yeah, that was me,” he said, his attention drawn to her pretty pink cheeks.
“And?”
His eyes snapped up to meet hers. “I thought you’d see me sooner. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean for you to get hurt.”
“You scared the bejeezus out of me. I don’t know when I’ve ever been so petrified. What an idiot.”
“Hey, I said I was sorry,” Adam took a step back and reminded himself she was hurt. People in pain sometimes said things they didn’t mean. Before he could apologize again, she spoke.
“I’m not calling you an idiot. Although one of the first things we learned in kindergarten was to wear light colors after dark.” She paused for a minute, closed her eyes and massaged her temples with her fingertips.
“I’m calling myself an idiot for believing the crazies I talk to all night. I must have hit my head pretty hard, because when I came to, I thought you were an alien. Wow, every awful thing I’ve heard on my show came rushing back to me.” She raised her eyes to meet his as she dropped her hands to her lap. “Like I said, what an idiot.”
“What show?” he asked.
“I’m Radio Rose. I host a late night talk show. Most of my programs are on alien abductions.”

It’s taken him eighteen years to get this point, but a chance encounter on the beach will make him want to figure it all out in just two weeks.

He’s come a long way, but can he really open his heart up to happiness—and to Hope?

About SJ McCoy

Hi, I’m SJ, a coffee addict, lover of chocolate and drinker of good red wines. I’m a lost soul and a hopeless romantic. Reading and writing are necessary parts of who I am. Though perhaps not as necessary as coffee! I can drink coffee without writing, but I can’t write without coffee.

I grew up loving romance novels, my first boyfriends were book boyfriends, but life intervened, as it tends to do, and I wandered down the paths of non-fiction for many years. My life changed completely a few of years ago and I returned to Romance to find my escape.

I write ‘Sweet N Steamy’ stories because to me there is enough angst and darkness in real life. My favorite romances are happy escapes with a focus on fun, friendships and happily-ever-afters, just like the ones I write.

These days I live in beautiful Montana, the last best place. If I’m not reading or writing you’ll find me just down the road in the park – Yellowstone. I have deer, eagles and the occasional bear for company, and I like it that way :0)

An Excerpt from the Book

The young man’s chin stuck out. His back stiffened, his gaze glued to Sam. “You? You’re just a rodeo washout.”
Sam stood his ground. The young man’s narrowed eyes screamed for someone to kick some sense into him, and Sam wanted to be that person. Since he recognised Sam, he was probably a local. Didn’t mean he could act like a jackass.
Affrica ran a hand along his arm, distracting him from his thoughts. “Let’s just go,” she said.
Walking away wasn’t Sam’s style, and he held the guy’s stare, challenging him to make the first move. Please do.
The guy looked away first and leapt into the crowd with his mates. Smart move.
With Sam’s arm still tight around Affrica, they wove past the herd, closing in on a staircase that vanished behind a wall.
Halfway up the steps, he stopped in the shadows, giving them complete isolation. She stood by his side, green eyes dominating her pale face. Behind the wall, the music reverberated, but at that moment, the two of them were all that mattered.
“You all right? Did that jerk hurt you?” His fingers pressed into the soft flesh of her arm and the sensation of her skin against his sent fire blazing through him. He’d intended to simply ask her if she was okay, but his pulse was raging, and being close to Affrica in that moment felt right.
She shook her head. “Yeah, I’m fine. You don’t need to get into fights on my behalf, but thanks.”
Her skin burned beneath his fingertips, messing with his head. It had been a long time since he had been compelled to protect anyone. Yet something about Affrica made him want to guard her. To cover her in cotton wool and keep her safe.
Sam pitched a hand against the wall above her shoulder and inhaled her honeyed fragrance mixed with hints of crisp citrus. What had she done to him? They hadn’t even ordered dinner and already he was contemplating kissing her. Tone it back, man.
The rise and fall of Affrica’s chest quickened, and the fire inside him dove south.
An abrupt cacophony of giggles erupted from farther down the staircase. Sam didn’t glance at the strangers; he couldn’t pull his gaze from Affrica’s parted, glossy lips. He wondered if they tasted as sweet as they looked.
Affrica’s attention was drawn to the people who stomped up the stairs as they passed, a frown capturing her brow. She slipped out from under his arm. “Let’s get going.”
He battled the fumes in his head and stared at the way the fabric of her dress rode up the backs of her thighs, dancing across her butt, teasing him. Girls had always vied for his attention, but he’d never wanted any of them the way he did Affrica. Was it because she wasn’t jumping all over him but playing hard to get? He adjusted his belt buckle and strode up after her, taking two steps at a time.

Chance Encounter is the first of three books in A Chance and a Hope Series.

These are not standalone reads. In fact, when you get to the end of this story, you may be faced with a cliffhanger – or you may not. The choice is yours!

What do I mean? Well, when you reach the end of Chapter Twenty you’ll be left with a warm and fuzzy Happy-For-Now. Then you’ll be faced with a choice – read on, all the way up to the edge of a cliff where I’ll leave you hanging, or stop right where you are and wait for Book Two to come out on June 13 and read Chapter Twenty-One then. If you love a cliffy, you can have one. If you detest a cliffy, you don’t have to deal with it! Also, if you’d rather wait until the entire trilogy is complete you’ll only have a couple of months to wait.

Book Two: Finding Hope releases June 13
Book Three: Give Hope a Chance releases July 11

Author: Linda Broday
Series: Bachelors of Battle Creek, #3
Pubdate: December 1st, 2015
ISBN: 9781492602873

“There’s this thing between us that refuses to die. I’d like nothing better than to be able to…” His words faded. He’d give anything to change people’s views about his race…to be able to make her his wife.
But the world wasn’t that simple. Not for people like them.

All his life, Brett Liberty has straddled two worlds: white and Iroquois. The only place he’s truly at peace is with his wild mustangs. But after he’s arrested for the color of his skin, he discovers Rayna Harper in the cell next to him. Rough and tumble Rayna has known little kindness, but Brett sees the depth of her heart hidden beneath layers of hurt and fear, and he refuses to leave without her.

Fierce and loyal, kind and strong, Rayna is everything Brett has ever wanted. But the world doesn’t look kindly on a love like theirs, and he would rather let her go than bring her pain. Yet when the demons of his past threaten her future, Brett realizes he will do anything to keep Rayna safe…and make her his.

At a young age, Linda Broday discovered a love for storytelling, history, and anything pertaining to the Old West. Cowboys fascinate her. There’s something about Stetsons, boots, and tall rugged cowboys that get her fired up! A New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Linda has won many awards, including the prestigious National Readers’ Choice Award and the Texas Gold Award. She now resides in the panhandle of Texas on the Llano Estacado.

Forever-His-Texas-Bride---Release-Graphic
Linda Broday’s latest is coming out this December! The final title in the Bachelor of Battle Creek trilogy, Forever His Texas Bride is sure to sweep readers off of their feet. To celebrate her new release, we’ve asked Linda to answer a “Quick Draw” either/or question and to share an excerpt with us!

Dresses or skirts? I like dresses because they make me feel a lot more feminine and you can dress them up or down, depending on the occasion. Add a pair of heels and you’ll turn men’s heads in nothing flat.

An Excerpt:

Rayna sat up, pushed back her cloud of russet hair, and got up from the bunk in Brett’s jail cell. It was then he saw that she wore a heavy pair of men’s brogans. What on earth! The shoes looked as though they might’ve come off a very poor dead man.
Her dirty dress had been mended so many times it looked like a patchwork quilt with none of the squares matching. But she seemed so spirited, so brave.
If society had ever allowed him to take a wife, he’d want someone like her. He hated to think he’d have spent all his life never knowing what it could be like to be happy like his brothers now were. While he waited to die, maybe they could pretend.
Maybe he could know what it was like to be loved.
Until they led him through those doors to a hangman, maybe he could have the bride prejudice had denied him. The bold notion made ripples dance under his skin.
Brett raised to a sitting position, ignoring the pain shooting through his back. “This may sound crazy, but I’m going to ask anyway. Rayna, do you think you could pretend to be my wife? Just until they take me away? No one will ever know but us, so they can’t hurt you.”
Turning, she dropped down beside him. Surprised tears bubbled in her eyes. “No one ever asked me to marry them before.”
“Is that a no?”
“I’d be honored to be your pretend wife,” she whispered, brushing his face with her fingers. “What do we do now?”
“Do you mind if I kiss you?”
“I’d like that…husband.”
Under her bright gaze, he lowered his head. But before their lips touched, the sound of a key grating in the lock made him jerk back. “Quick, go to your cell before they catch you with me.”
Rayna scurried into hers and quietly eased the door shut.
Just then a deputy sauntered in, taking care to keep his distance from Brett’s cell. “You alive, breed?”
Brett glared. “Disappointed?”
The deputy—a squat man who reminded Brett of a possum with little weasel eyes, grunted, shifting his gaze to Rayna. “Give any thought to my offer, woman?”
No one had to spell out what the deputy meant. Brett sought to tamp down his rising anger. He watched Rayna tilt her head at a defiant angle.
“The answer is the same as all the other times.”
The weasel shrugged and went back out. The minute the door locked shut, Rayna slowly walked into Brett’s cell and sat down beside him again. “I wish I could see the sky and smell the fresh air.”
“How long have you been in here?”
“Over a month, I think. With each sunrise I’ve been making a mark on the wall. The one today makes thirty-one. But no matter how much I want out, I’m not doing what that deputy wants,” she whispered. “I’ll never be a fine lady, but even I have my dignity. No one will ever take that.”
Though still hesitant, Brett took her small, dainty hand. Her skin shone white against his. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d touched someone who wasn’t family, but his pretend wife was different somehow. “Always stand on your principles. In the end, we still have to live with ourselves, look at our face in the mirror.”
