disabled cousin Ted Demeray. The police would like to know exactly what

child and traumatized by his abuse. She and Ted leave Stonebridge Manor to
start a new life in Brenford, where Ted teaches geology at the university,
but Jason’s restless spirit follows them and continues to haunt Rynna’s
dreams. He wants her back. He wants revenge. And he wants his son. Can Ted
and Rynna find a way to oppose his claims and finally put him to rest?

About the Author

Linda Griffin

I knew I wanted to be a “book maker” as soon as I learned to
read, and I wrote my first story, “Judy and the Fairies,” at the
age of six. My passion for the printed word also led me to a career with the
San Diego Public Library. I retired to spend more time on my writing and
have had stories of every length from short shorts to novellas published in
numerous literary journals. Beyond Stonebridge is my ninth book from the
Wild Rose Press. In addition to the three R’s–reading, writing, and
research–I enjoy travel, movies, Scrabble, and visiting museums and art
galleries.

Sweethearts Eric Leidheldt and Desiree Chauveau are spending a weekend at
his uncle’s cabin when they encounter two strangers cutting wood. Eric is
knocked unconscious, and Desi is viciously attacked. The following day two
police officers come to their apartment to arrest Desi. Her assailants are
dead, murdered with an axe, and her fingerprints are on it. She
confesses—but is she really guilty? Eric is determined to stand by
her, but the physical and emotional effects of the attack severely challenge
their relationship.

Excerpt

The pickup was a very old, battered Dodge. Beyond it were two bearded men
in plaid flannel shirts. The one with the axe was about forty,
broad-shouldered, and dark-haired. The other one was tall, scruffy, a little
younger, and had red hair. They both turned toward the approaching couple.
The red-haired one stared at Desi in a way Eric didn’t like, but the
other man smiled genially and said, “Howdy, folks. Pretty day,
ain’t it?”

And then he swung the axe.

Four couples, four stories:

Darien Francis and Richard Li meet during a bank robbery, but she’s
afraid to love again.

Shane Kenniston and Beth Parker are reacquainted years after she had a
crush on him, but she is a recent widow, and Shane’s life was upended
by a false accusation.

David Early and Kate Howard meet in the laundromat, but her life is
consumed by the needs of her disabled child, and David isn’t ready for
the responsibility.

Realtor Frank Ellison meets Kayla Barnes at an open house, but a mistaken
first impression derails any chance of romance.

Can they all overcome the obstacles to love?

Excerpt

When she finally stopped crying, he asked, “Do you want to tell me
about him?”

“No.” She backed away from him and searched her pockets for a
tissue, but of course at this moment, of all times, she didn’t have
one. He did, though—a whole box stood on the coffee table—and he
gave her one, and she blew her nose. Her mascara was running, and her face
must be blotchy and red. “This is so humiliating,” she said.
“I never do this. I feel like such an idiot.”

“Why? It’s perfectly natural. I’m glad to know
you’re not so tough.”

“It’s unprofessional, and it makes me feel ugly. It’s a
good thing you’re not attracted to me.”

“What?”

She peered at him, sniffling, and dabbed at her eyes. “You’re
not, are you?”

“Which answer will get me in the least trouble?” he asked.

She laughed shakily. She felt a lot better. “If you were before, you
wouldn’t be now.” He gave her another tissue, and she managed to
get most of the mascara off. He rubbed away a stray smudge with his thumb,
and his fingers brushed her cheek. The soft touch was even more comforting
than being held in his arms. She closed her eyes.

He kissed her. It was the briefest pressure of his lips against hers,
gentle and sweet, but she felt it deep inside. She opened her eyes. His were
wide with surprise. “I think we just went off the clock,” she
said.

Love, Death, and the Art of Cooking cover

Romantic Suspense

Date Published: August 16, 2021

Publisher: The Wild Rose Press

Software engineer Reid Lucas loves to cook and has a history of falling in love with married women. When he leaves his complicated past in Chicago for a job in California, he runs into trouble and must call a virtual stranger to bail him out of jail. Alyssa Knight, a tough street cop waiting for a church annulment from her passive-aggressive husband, is the roommate of the woman Reid calls for help, and she reluctantly provides bail for Reid. He falls for her immediately, and cooking for her is an act of love. She just wants to be friends, but they keep ending up in bed together. When his boss is murdered, Reid is a suspect—or is he the intended target?

Excerpt

She was knowing and affectionate and so pretty he couldn’t resist her. He put a hand on her knee and leaned in to kiss her. Her mouth was soft and willing, and he put down the coffee cup and took her face in both hands.

After a long, intense interval of suspended time, she pulled away and rested her forehead against his. “Oh, Reid,” she said—half disapproval, half sighing acquiescence. He stroked her breast, and her breathing quickened, and he slid a hand over her nylon-clad knee and under her skirt to find bare thigh. “Don’t,” she said.

He paused but didn’t withdraw his hand. “Is that no?” he asked.

She sighed. “Not yet,” she said, but she was warning him too, not to go too far, beyond the point of no return. Only it was hard to know where that was.
